Description of Interaction Over the past two and a half years, I have been overseeing a program called LeaderKids as director of the organization on TCU’s campus. Currently, LeaderKids (LK) is a collaboration between TCU, and community program called Leadership Fort Worth (LSFW) and Fort Worth Independent School District (FWISD) with the purpose of “Developing leadership abilities in middle-school students through community involvement.” (LeaderKids, n.d.). In my time as director, the organization has changed a lot, becoming a mentoring program for 8th grade students wherein they’re matched up with two TCU mentors as well as either four or five other 8th grade students, the result being a small group of roughly four 8th grade students and …show more content…
I interacted with the kids on the following dates: September 29th from 6:30-8:30 (parent meeting), October 6th from 2 p.m. -6 p.m. at TCU, November 10th from 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. at Broadway Baptist and the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens and most recently December 1st from 2 p.m.- 6 p.m. at UNT Health Science Center. Each event is structured where the kids get dropped off by school buses, hear about a leadership practice from me and then listen to other announcements for about 25 minutes, do the activity the location has preset up and then have dinner and leave on buses to go to their …show more content…
In regard to development, most of the kids I work with have begun to go through the stages of puberty and growth. “William” appears to have hit a growth spurt and seems to grow a couple inches every month, his voice however has either yet to mature or is just extremely soft, so it’ll be interesting to see if his voice develops more over the course of the year. He also seems to be one of my most clumsy 8th graders, often running into things or tripping. I believe this is probably because of his growth spurt, so there’s a level of bodily self-awareness he may still getting used to while his growth continues to

    Observing this toddler has taught me many things. I was able to learn about the different forms of child development and what it looks like. One of the major forms of child development is physical. The child experiences major child development during the first two years of life. During this time the child experiences gross-motor development. The skills obtained from these developments are the ability to run, jump, catch etc. During the observation of the infant I was able to witness some of these developments. For example over the course of my observation I noticed the infant had significantly improved his ability to stand up and sit down on his own. He was struggling when the observation but seemingly got more comfortable doing it over and over again. The walking stared to become natural and more second nature however it was awkward and difficult when the infant just started. The infant also became more comfortable gripping and grasping objects. Another form of development observed was cognitive development. This development includes the ability to think rhetorically and the ability to communicate with others. The child made significant development in this field he was able to learn more words and express his thoughts in an understanding manner. The infant’s ability to play and interact with other children has increased. His memory has increased and is able to remember certain things over time his able to memorize more things and can recognize familiar faces. The final form of physical development is social-emotional development. This stage involves dealing with other children and being able to pay attention to adult figures. The infant is able to obey the adults and other persons in charge. They also become more comfortable at expressing their emotions. The child is also able to learn empathy and…

    As a teaching assistant it is important to acknowledge different aspects of child development. Babies and children may reach significant milestones at different ages, for example some babies will learn to crawl earlier than others, which are less advanced and often require nurturing. Therefore it is important to remember that development is a holistic process and that each child is unique and will develop in their own way and at different rates.
