The 2017 budget is $40.6 billion for the Department of Homeland Security, which reflects continued commitment to the security of the homeland and the American Public. Homeland security is the most important mission any government can provide to its people. This budget provides funding to sustain and strengthen their policies mission in areas such as preventing terrorism and enhancing security, securing and managing our borders, and enforcing and administering our immigration laws. This requires the dedication of more than 240,000 employees in jobs that range from aviation and border security to emergency response, from cybersecurity analyst to chemical facility inspector. Duties are wide-ranging, and their one goal is clear, to keep America safe. The Department of Homeland Security maintains protection on our borders from the illegal movement of weapons, drugs, and people, while promoting lawful entry and exit.
