demerit point system essay
Demerit Point System 07/06/14

Speeding, races, accidents and careless driving are all the things we would see if we did not have rules, regulations and point systems. When you are driving a car you have to understand that there are other people on the road and when you are driving, you are risking not only your life but the other drivers as well. You must remember that it is a privilege to drive. The Demerit Point System is what keeps the streets mostly free of these drivers.

The Demerit Point System is a system where if you do not obey the rules of the road, you will be given points on your driving record. These points are not good. The points tell police officers that you have disobeyed the rules of the road and you may get a ticket. As a new driver, if you violate any rules and get nine demerit points your license will be suspended for 30 days. If you do not surrender it to ministry, it can be suspended for up to two years. As a fully licensed driver, if you receive 15 points you will lose your license for 30 days as well. If you repeat this your license will be suspended for six months. This will also stay on your record for two years.

In conclusion, the government is trying to promote good driving throughout the years. It does not matter what type of driver you are, you must follow the laws of driving to get no demerit points in order to keep your license and have low insurance.

Secondly, the Demerits Points System is also another way to promote road safety. All drivers begin with zero demerit points and only accumulate them when charged with convictions. The given points and the extent of the punishment vary from the charge of two to seven points depending on the magnitude of the offence and can stay on your record for two years. The punishment given also depends whether the person is a new driver or a licensed driver. The law is more severe with new drivers as the need for education on safe driving is essential and immediate. However, regardless of the type of driver a person is, this system targets everyone on the road to promote safety.…
