Deforestation is simply the means of removing trees and forests, generally through burning or cutting. In this paper I will cover South America where deforestation mainly takes place as needs in agriculture rise requiring more land. In the tropical regions there are mainly three types of deforestation that take place. Firstly, in poor economy countries such as South America, poor citizens turn to agriculture for feeding their families. Farmers use agricultural settlements and then cut down acres of land to use for agricultural farming. Once they have cut down the trees the farmers burn the stumps which releases certain nutrients that sustain the life of the crops which is called “Slash and Burn” agriculture.
