Definition Essay: What Is An Influential Person?
What is “Influence”? What is “influence”? What people mean when they say about some that he is influential? What are the criteria of this so-called “influential person”? I think of influence as a state more than an attribute. Influential people are always influential, they are not flickering lights neither do they flash for short moments, instead they light up constantly. Those people are persistent, endeavoring to help, achieve the thing that they do the best: impact and influence. The influential character emerged early in my career. As young as 5-year-old, influential trait germinated in me, and when I began to have my own solid knowledge, I enjoyed sharing it with people in my first school. I can still vividly see the young kid in his …show more content…
Who would preach, take part in the weekly play, present the news, etc. The atmosphere of the school has helped me a lot. The STEMs are boarding schools in Egypt where you can learn more about people because you are living with them. I have joined the school IT-team because of my experience and knowledge in technology where I was responsible for helping people who are new to using technology in learning. Fix problems with laptops, computers, projectors, etc. After a while I became the organizer of the team. I have dawned, appeared, loved people, and be loved. After just one year in the School, I ran for the vice secretary office in the school’s student union, and unsurprisingly there has been unanimous agreement upon me. I helped the secretary and we both carried out a lot of missions, starting a foundation for teaching STEM students different skills. Influence, my highest principle, has driven me to share my knowledge through this foundation. I have given an introductory course to the java programming language and I worked to look for people who have the will, desire and motivation to help their colleagues

“Whap!” A spiraling red dodge ball crashes into my face and suddenly I am awake. The outcries from the eighth-grade girls around me pull me back into the packed room full of 200 middle schoolers. As I look around I realize there is no place I would rather spend my Friday mornings than volunteering with somewhat smelly middle schoolers as a Campus Life leader. Here, I discovered my passion for working with middle school students. They helped me discover that I wanted to change my major from Elementary Education to Middle School Education. Here at UNK, I am a part of SEAN and participate in student directed one acts. These activities are a fun break from studying and I plan on continuing with these activities throughout my years here at UNK. In high school, I…

On a professional level, when influence is properly asserted, you have the ability to help shape the course of something much bigger than an individual agenda – there’s the ability to have an impact on the lives of many. To be able to influential, your peers and leadership first have to trust you. They need to know your knowledge (or ability to gain it) is sound, your word is good, your promises are realistic and solid, you can handle adversity & setbacks, and that you have a reasonable level of belief within your peer group so that you can get things done. Consistently succeeding in these areas, over time, establishes your reliability within the company and with your co-workers. If you are trustworthy and reliable; then all that’s left to finish building a foundation that allows for influence is assertiveness. You have to understand power and know how to handle your peers in a leadership position. One of Raven’s and French’s five bases of power is reward. You have to implement rewards for those that are performing above and beyond. Keep employees motivated by any means necessary. Rewarding employees will have them working towards goals with determination and drive. I would constantly be proactive instead of reactive. I would be taking a level measured risks to put out ideas, suggestions, and to give/receive requests for help when needed for the betterment of the organization… confidently, because it’s within the limits of ability of the individual, or belief that the combined ability of the team, is present to perform; while recognizing and respecting the viewpoints, suggestion, and feedback of others. Furthermore I would be aggressive, make concise decisions and stand by them accepting full responsibility for my actions wrong or right. Taking a competitive, ‘all-out effort’ to “win” at any cost; thereby putting out ideas, suggestions, and demands for help for the advancement of one’s self or agenda. While often self-perceived as being forward, it’s often…

Great leaders are able to effectively influence their subordinates. This influencing is usually done by using their authority. Most people tend to believe and trust in people in authority because they have reputation and rapport. Another source of influence that leaders use to influence others is expertise. “If subordinates believe that their managers have more knowledge or technical skill than they do, they will accept the manager’s view more easily” (Hellriegel et al). Lastly, charisma can also be used to influence others. “A charismatic leader is a person who has the ability to influence others because of his or her inspirational qualities, and have the power to obtain cooperation and devotion of their followers” (Hellriegel et al).…
