Definition Essay on Loyalty
For Which We Stand

Loyalty, does it still exist today? I am of the opinion that it does; after all, our loyalty to God, family and country is what we stand for. Although, loyalty can be described by many other words, such as, faithfulness, commitment, obligation, devotion and allegiance. Therefore, the true meaning of loyalty may be left up the individual. Finding what loyalty means to me began in the summer of 1992. I was offered an employment opportunity by my uncle, Richard Graham. In particular, a sales position at the Ford dealership he recently had purchased. Since I was only twenty one years old, this seemed like a great opportunity to better myself. Although, southern Ohio, was once a thriving industrial community, it had since, became part of the “rust belt”. However, I was still a little apprehensive about moving to Tennessee. After all, spending my whole life in Portsmouth Ohio, made it home in my mind. In addition, my parents, grand-parents and siblings all still lived there. So that made the day I packed, what few belongings that were mine, in a small tow behind U-haul and headed south very difficult. Therefore, were if not for this leap of faith, I would have never met my loving wife Kisha. She has been my best friend for the last twenty years, one I adore to this day. We became acquainted through her sister Pam, whom also work for my uncle. Certainly ,we were destined to be together from the very beginning. Fate had drawn me to this little dot on a map in rule Middle Tennessee; at the time, I had no idea why. I was soon to find out though. The relationship move quickly, in fact, what was about to come would change both our lives forever. A few months in, Kisha started to complain about allergies. She called me one day and said “I think I'm allergic to our Christmas tree, I have been feeling horrible, my head has been all stopped up and I'm sick to my stomach”. Then came a trip to Dr. Organ. In brief, she explained her symptoms to him. He

The Loyalty and Loss written by Margaret M. Storey is a well-written and persuasive book studying how the Unionists in Alabama, the Deep South state, confronted the Confederate authorities during the civil war and their life in the Reconstruction. The first interesting thing I found was that the diversity of the Unionists. The author tried to find the similarities among the different Unionists and surprisingly she found out that the Unionists were highly distributed. Some of them could from the infertile hill county and the others could from the rich Tennessee Valley. No matter how different their backgrounds were, all of them undertook great risks on defying the confederate authorities and fight for their belief.…

The novel Of Mice and Men shows many examples of commitment and loyalty. Lennie respects very highly of George all the time. Lennie is mentally slow, so he might think of George as his master, but they are best friends. George is committed to reach his dream. He has always wanted to own a small “dream farm,” and many people are financially supporting him. Even though he doesn’t end up with the dream farm in the novel, he still worked very hard for it. Lastly, everyone was loyal to Slim. The rest of the characters considered him as the “prince” of the farm. All of this shows how people were loyal to others, whether in the right or wrong way, and how you should work hard to fulfill your dreams, even if it does not work out as expected.…

Loyalty can be known as a commitment a person will take to show their worthiness. In "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight," loyalty had been misused by Sir Gawain. Gawain had broken his promise to the king he had stayed with by not giving him the girdle the queen had given him. This action made Gawain un loyal because he broke the one rule the king had given him. A similar action takes place in the present day, in which an act of un loyalty can be made through marriage. Husbands or wives can break their vows by cheating on their spouse. Just like Gawain who had cheated his own way out of the castle. These two scenarios both show acts of breaking a commitment known as un loyalty, which defies chivalry.…

Loyalty is still defined as staying true and faithful to another person, in this case, a family. Ma and Tom Joad proved loyalty in their family and helped relate the message to modern families. The Grapes of Wrath showed the strength and perseverance of the Joad family as they struggled to find their way in the West (California). They remained loyal to each other and to their ideas. They pushed their way through deputies, reds, and rain to stay together. A family is not just a basic social unit consisting of parents and their children. A family is a loving group of people who show support and loyalty to one another through thick and…

At a young age, I was attracted to my neighborhood church. I remember waking up to dress and walk myself there, to be around others in the community coming together for united purposes. After reading this specific lens focuses its ideals as said ‘through Nature or given by God’ as the way for man kind to strive to abide. A secondary value of this lens is loyalty. Nowadays, I find myself having to think about how far one should take loyalty. I have been in many debates on fairness to others. Defending friendships or family to the point where I’ve lost a few friendships from debating what I thought was right in a situation and came off too strong.…

Loyalty to God will forever and always be the same. That is fleeing from the things of evil, the things that are not from God and running to God the father. This is everything from being capable to spot heretical teachings, such as the Health/Wealth teachings that are currently on the rise that motivate people to follow Christ for their own personal benefit. However, like Ezer, we need to do better than just be able to spot what is wrong, we need to be able to lead those around us and under our influence into the same conclusion that we have made. We should be able to make followers of Christ that love the Christ, love the word, and actively seek out how to better serve him in order to further the…

Though this does come in handy a number of times, it does not mean that I do not get passionate over the things that I care deeply about.
