Definition Essay Heroes
People may think of the word hero differently. When I hear the word hero I think of Superman, Batman, and Spiderman. Those are all great “heroes” in my opinion. However, we know those are not factual heroes. A hero, also defined as someone who has made noble or brave accomplishments. Someone’s accomplishments or someone in a cape does not make them a hero. A true hero is someone who helps or makes a difference in someone’s life. The example he or she sets for society can make them a hero. Heroes deal with challenges but are able to overcome them. A number of people put in heroic situations would give up. However, a hero will continue regardless of the problems. A hero can be anyone. They don’t have to save a life, or go around fighting crime. We can recognize someone as a hero from their doings of kindness. A hero puts another person’s needs before his or hers. I believe a hero does not want to be prized or glorified. They just want to help another person because that’s just who they are. …show more content…
They have no superpowers they are just like us. They just have a feeling of obligation towards this nation. Moreover, they care for the general population. They make sacrifices to fight for people they're not acquainted with. The soldiers lose time with family, personal security, and comfort. The most heroic thing about soldiers is that they're risking their lives for others.
A common place to find a hero is schools. Some would disagree, but in my opinion, teachers are heroic. The future of our society is really in their hands. Teachers spend spare time improving themselves to make a difference in others. They also teach students more than just their subject. Teachers clarify ideas and lessons that help others in different levels of education and in life. They also lack the super powers. Their accomplishments may go unnoticed too. Throughout history, there have been an incalculable number of heroes; that can be through reality or fictitious. From viewing the clips from this assignments and reading various articles regarding heroism, there are multiple aspects that determine exactly what a hero should be. In regards to the Spiderman video, Aunt May explains that a hero is someone that is courageous, self-sacrificing, and sets examples for others. Likewise, an article I read describes a hero as someone who is courageous, selfless, humble, patient, and caring. In my opinion, a hero is an individual who cares more about the life of others than themselves; they would do anything in their power to protect others as well as the world around them.…

On the subject of heroism, Maya Angelou once wrote that “I think a hero is any person really intent on making this a better place for all people” (Angelou). The general picture that comes to mind when the word “hero” is said is the idea of Superman or Wonder Woman; however, a true hero is anyone who tries to make their world a better place. Odysseus, the hero in Homer’s epic poem The Odyssey, fought in the Trojan War and embarked on a ten year journey to return to his kingdom, Ithaca. During his quest to return home, he encounters many supernatural forces that show both his heroic, and not so heroic actions. He faces countless challenges, meets new people, and has to make sacrifices for the overall benefit of his crew (Bowler and Homer 645-705).…

A hero can mean many different things to a person. But to me a hero is someone that i think would risk their lives, someone who isn't selfish and puts others in front of them, instead of themselves. That is what i think of what a hero is to me. Heros are just like us, but would do anything to help others as long as they’re okay.…

What is a hero? A hero to me is a person who is brave, has a bunch of courage and knows right from wrong. You don’t have to have a mask or a suit to be a hero. A hero is willing to help a person at anytime. A hero can kill their enemy with kindness. For an example I believe Jackie Robinson is an incredible, life changing hero. He had been the first African American to play in the Major League Baseball. He had played for the Brooklyn Dodgers. They played him and they had ended racial segregation.…

They also have a tragic flaw that usually ends up leading to their down fall in the story. They do, however end up learning from their experience and grow through it. The novel Their Eyes Were Watching God has a character that could be described as a hero. Imagine a mother that leaves her education behind for the well-being and the future of her child. If that is not a hero, then what does the word hero really mean? A hero is not just a person with superpowers, but somebody who cares about others more than material things. A hero is someone who takes responsibility and protects the weak. Thus, the three types of heroes are everyday hero, superhero and famous hero. My three examples of heroes are Superman, my mother and the Mirabal sisters. They are different but share a common goal, which is to protect and care about others.…

A hero can be real or fictional but either way a hero goes through the same stages and has choices to make to help others at whatever cost. Someone may not seem like they could be a hero but by doing what they can, could help make a huge difference in someone’s life. Being a hero is not always what movies and comic books make it out to be; a hero can be a regular person being generous. Making the right choices and decisions is what helps shape a person to be a hero; they don’t become one just for the fame.…

The true definition of a true hero is very dense and requires some deep analysis. As eloquently stated by American tennis player, Arthur Ashe, “True heroism is remarkably sober – very undramatic. It is not the urge to surpass all others at whatever cost, but the urge to serve others at whatever cost." (Dilbeck). Any person who has the urge within them to serve others, do good, inspire, and demonstrate moral excellence deserve a title as a hero to mankind, and many types of people can be described as having this character. There are very many different types of heroes in the world and millions of them – the one, dominant thing that they all have in common is moral excellence.…

The first thing I would like to say is the definition of a hero "Someone who behaves selflessly, usually at considerable personal risk and sacrifice, to comfort or empower others and to make the world a better place." “Hard times don’t create heroes. It is during the hard times when the ‘hero’ within us is revealed” (Bob Riley). Everyday ordinary people are performing acts of heroism. These people such as doctors, teachers and soldiers often don’t consider themselves heroes. Today’s heroes don’t wear tights and a cape, their potential to be a hero is just camouflaged by everyday situations and challenges.…

A hero can make a difference in a small, medium, or large way. Some say that you can’t be a hero until you do a difficult or large task to prove that you are one. The truth is, the world is filled with heroes who became one by one simple task. Like your parents, city workers, or many other citizens. People aren’t doing the good to help themselves, there doing it for the person they are helping. A hero is not someone who saves lives in exchange for press coverage or a reward. For example, if the ‘hero’ tends to appear only at big events or televised events when needed, it would not be heroic. However, someone who genuinely helps someone else out without type of reward is a hero. Picking up someone’s book for them in a deserted hallway is heroic. To illustrate, Mulan, the main character from the film Mulan, is a hero. Mulan risked her life by going to war in order to save her home country. She poses as a man and proceeds to fight with the other men. ” It’s going to take a miracle to get me into the army.” Mulan is heroic because she can gain no reward from fighting. If anything, it would disgrace her and her families name. Mulan stood up for what she believed in with her families honor on the line. Thus, heroes do not expect a reward and take risks for what they believe in no matter the…
