Definition of Beauty
Many people have heard of the old saying that “beauty comes from within.” Although beauty is difficult to define due to differential views, the majority of people may agree that it is a person’s personality that makes them beautiful. According to Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary, beauty is“the quality of being physically attractive.” Although this definition is somewhat true, it is not all that defines the term. Due to a new uprising in pop culture, beauty is now defined only by the attractive, physical traits a person has. Also, this generation attempts to sell beauty as a vapid and superficial pursuit that exists solely to sell products and wag tongues. There are so many cases in which girls and guys alike starve themselves to acquire the “beautiful” body image that is seen in the media today. Is it not enough to have a healthy body? Our generation thinks so. Society claims that looking a certain way means you are beautiful, but that is most definitely not the case. Of course, it is important for people to exercise and eat a proper diet. When someone takes care of their body, they are able to do the things they enjoy. That person has the ability to be passionate, purposeful, and positive. Just by this connotation of beauty, individuals are allowed to be confident and happy, and that is the ultimate idea of beauty. With this, people can adjust their ego and push aside the idealistic idea of beauty in today’s society. Beauty seen in today’s society can be such a diverse term. People tend to alter their idea of beauty in order to blend in with the crowd surrounding them. Although this generation is attempting to convince people that their idea of beauty is better than others, it will most likely never succeed.
