Quotation: “When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood like a child, I thought as a child, but when I became a man, I put away childish ways”

Why, do you think, he chose this verse?
Dr. James Farmer, a renowned educationist quoted the scripture 1 Corinthians 13:11 at the beginning of the movie, when he was addressing the freshmen of Wiley college during the orientation of a new school year.
I think this verse was an intended eye-opener, he chose it because it was quite pertinent for such an occasion; the students were fresh from high school suggesting Dr. Farmer intended to use the verse to inform these young people that they were in new territory and also to encourage and motivate them to pursue their freshman year with all seriousness and assiduousness.

How did the verse apply to the students?
This group of students had just come in from high school, which is more or less a ‘childish environment’ this circumstance by implication therefore relates to the verse quoted by Dr. Farmer, this was a pointer for the students that they have to undertake greater responsibility at this stage. All less than serious and lackadaisical attitude from high school was to be put aside, as those are childish traits. Commitment, diligence and industriousness- traits of a man, were to be of paramount importance at this point. Mindsets and mannerisms and priorities were to change in order to embrace mature characteristics vital for this stage of their lives.

How it connects with me.
Personally, I can identify with this verse quoted by Dr. Farmer, I am almost practically in the same circumstance as the freshmen of wiley college who were addressed with this verse- I am embarking on a completely different journey, in a new environment presents more responsibility and requires maturity as I am in a very crucial stage

During the 20th century, there were many events and situations that helped define the country of Canada. There were positive moments, but also a good amount of negative ones. Of course, the successful events kept Canadians in a positive light, but the negative situations helped Canada learn from its mistakes and went to prove how strong and brave its citizens were/are. The three most defining moments would have to be the Dieppe Raid, the Invasion of Normandy, and the Battle of Vimy Ridge. These three events not only assisted the country to become what it has today, but has also defined what the nation has become.…

There are many well-meaning, devout, knowledgeable Christians who well never intentionally build even one world-impacting, world visionary, reproducing disciple. This is because they will never seriously pursue a systematic curriculum designed for the purpose of discipling another to his ultimate destination (Hodges, p117). This need is not reserved for pastors, as evidenced by the writings of Luke. Luke was a layman, a busy doctor with his hectic schedule. Yet, he made time to develop much of our new testament for the purpose of winning Theophilus to a personal faith in Christ (Hodges, p119). We likewise are to be about making disciples.…

Edwards wanted to get across to his audience the idea that they were all in danger of being thrown into an unending hell at any point in their lives. However, he could not have simply claimed that most people in the congregation would go to hell because that would have been neither convincing nor effective. Even back then when most of the colonists believed in a God and believed in an eternal hell, many would have ignored Jonathan Edwards had that been his approach. Instead, Edwards broke down the argument into 2 logical premises, in order to present his claim in a way that would be palatable to this particular audience.…

I found the quote in my epigraph to be very accurate; how can one become old and wise if they aren’t first “young and stupid”? Kids, teenagers and young adults tend to go against their parents’ words of wisdom to do what they believe will be fun, change their beliefs in politics and religion, and believe the idea of thinking they know everything, but they really don’t. I know this from experience, and a common example is when asking for permission to go do something stupid because everyone else is doing it, parents often say “If everyone jumped off a bridge, would you do it too?”, even though it is tempting to say yes, we answer no because us young people really know that our parents are actually correct. When young people become older and…
