* Position Defense
* Mobile Defense
* Flanking Defense
* Contraction Defense
*Pre-emptive Defense
*Counter-Offensive Defense

Bharti Airtel limited is a leading global telecommunication company .
The company offers mobile voice & data services, fixed line, high speed broad band, IPTV, DTH and national & international long distance services to carriers.
It operates a GSM network in all countries.

29.00% market share of the GSM mobile service in India

Position defense

This involves the defense of a fortified position. This tends to be a weak defense because you become a sitting duck.
It can lead to a siege situation in which time is on the side of the attacker, that is, as time goes by the defender gets weaker, while the attacker gets stronger.

Position defense Example:

Airtel Enjoying tariff plans as they wish before Tata Docomo came with per paisa billing (06thAugust, 2009) now Airtel also adopted the same plan.
Initially they use to charge high message charges according to different plans but when message packs started they also came with that. Tata Docomo was the first operator to instigate ISD price war by a whopping reduction of 83 percent, bringing ISD call equal to Local calls.
Reverse CRBT Idea Cellular was the first company to launch (30Th March 2010) the reverse ring back tone service, by the name Pre Tones. Tata Docomo launched the service next, and called it My Song.
Bharti Airtel was the third operator to roll out this VAS for its customers

    US mobile phone service industry is a perfect example of an oligopolistic industry. In this industry, companies are providing the same kind of service, but are also trying to differentiate themselves to attract more customers. The mobile phone service market was dominating by AT&T, Verizon, Sprint Nextel, and T-mobile with over 86.7% of market share in 2007 and 82.5% market share in 2008. The two main players were AT&T with 71.3million subscribers and Verizon with 67.2 million subscribers. Since there are only four firms that are dominating the market, the companies are aware of the actions of others. For example, in 2008, Verizon introduces its $100 a month flat-rate plans. The plan includes unlimited calling and internet usage. One week after the new release, AT&T and T-mobile also announced their new flat-rate plan which is similar to Verizon’s plan. AT&T charges $99 a month and T-mobile charges $99.99 a month. In January 2010, AT&T and Verizon both announced that they are dropping the cost of its unlimited calling plans from $100 a month to $70 a month with the same feature. This is an action responding to T-mobile and Sprint’s price cut strategy late last year. Non-pricing strategies are always used within the competition in oligopoly…
