EPISTEMOLOGY

Epistemology is the study of the grounds of knowledge. (Becvar,2013)
It asks the question “what knowledge is and how it can be acquired”. (http://carm.org/dictionary-epistemology)
How can anything be really known? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epistemology)
The word originates from the greek: episteme = knowledge and logos = study - i.e. it is the study of knowledge. (http://eddiechauncy.blogspot.com/2012/01/what-are-ontology-and-epistemology_12.html)

Your 'epistemology ' is your answer to the question: 'How can I know reality? ' (I.e. even if something really exists, how can I know that?)

An example of this is the question: “How does an infant know who its mother is?”
The “psychological first moment” (bonding) between infant and mother, is it real, perceived or just a belief.

THEORY

It is a belief that is taken from the observed physical sciences into the behavioural sciences and used to describe human behaviour as determined through internal or external factors. (Becvar, 2013)
A theory is used to describe and predict future behaviour in humans. (http://www.psychology.about.com › ... › Psychology Dictionary › T Index) An example is Jean Piaget’s theory that children go through stages where they become ready for certain kinds of learning. These stages are called "stages of cognitive development". (http://www. simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean_Piaget)

MODEL

A model is a way of representing patterns of behaviour and relationships between the observed people, whether it is in families, individuals or in society or in development of people. (The concise Dictionary of Psychology, 2013) Examples of models is Kantor and Lehr’s family typology, the Beavers Model and the Circumplex Model of Olson in Family Assessment and classification (Becvar,2013)

TECHNIQUE

A technique is a systematic procedure/ approach which a counsellor/ psychologist use to do therapy for clients and families. (http://www.thefreedictionary.com/technique) Examples of Basic Family Therapy Techniques: Techniques for Information Gathering, Joining, Diagnosing, Family System Strategies
