Deductive vs Inductive

OPPOSITION BETWEEN DEDUCTIVE AND INDUCTIVE TECHNIQUES
Students have different learning skills and capacities for getting to know about shown and told knowledge. To teach something effectively , we have many techniques used while educating. So, during the teaching process teachers use different methods to school effectively. Two of them are deductive and inductive techniqe. Both of them have adventages but they are completely different from each other with the dominant people, flowing of information, people number, structure of content.
When we look at their dominant people during the teaching and learning; in deductive technuqie , teachers are more active than the students; so it is more teacher-centered. This means that firstly, teachers give a new information and concepts to the class and then they make explanation about what they want to give the students. And teachers expect to students make practice and complete the given tasks using offered informations. But in inductive technuqie, education is student-centered. This technique requires great deal of student participation. It makes students deeply involve in class during the lessons. Instead of explaining the concept and following this explanations with examples, teachers present the student giving examples showing how this concept is used. This technuqie is more experiental for students and the teacher takes part as guide in class. In this technuqie, the aim is to make students notice by drawing examples how the concept works.
Viewing of flow of information; deductive teaching and learning means that, flow of information given during the lessons goes from general to spesific. Firstly, the concept or the skill being taught is explained with using definitions and is given with general aspects, then explanation about the concept is supported by examples. And with examples, it is narrowed down and also with practices it is made clear. For example, in a deductive classroom, while passive active voice is being explained, the teacher gives rules and explains transforming an active sentence to a passive, and then she/he gives sentences to students and wants them to practice making active to passive. On the other hand, in inducitve class it is completely opposite of the deductive. Flow of information goes from spesific to general. Lesson starts with activities in this technique. Firstly, examples is provided in class and then students are expected to practice according to given models and to comprehend the rule of themselves. Starting from here, after giving examples and making students figure out the concept. And then according to the being taught , the rules are given and explanation is made clear. For instance to this tecnique, in inductive classroom and again while passive-active voice is being given, at first the teacher gives practical examaples about the subject and wants students to figure out differences between passive sentences and active ones. And then it’s rules are explained and understood by students with teacher’s guide.
Deductive technique is proper to used in large groups while induuctive one is suitible for the small groups. Because deductive is teacher-centered technique and it can be applied to crowded classes but in inductive one students are more dominant than teacher in education process and it is suitible for small groups in order to be effective. However in deductive classes information can be transferred to more students less time, in inductive technique because it includes activities and experiments to every student to understand the concept ,it takes longer time and is taken part smaller group in inductive classes.
When we come to the structure of content, deductive technique is structured. It includes stereotypes information and the subject is explained with objective view. About this technnique it can be said that it is traditional and predictable because it includes objective and generally accepted rights among the whole informational sources. But when we think about the inductive technique, it includes the informations which can be change from person to person at first because it is based on experience of someone and examples about the concept. Because informations comes from a lot of life and because it contains livable informations, it is easily understood and it is more memorable.
They are opposite to each other in many ways like i mentinoed above. One of the main difference between them is their dominant character durind the teaching and learning process. Deductive technique is teacher-centered method while inductive one is student centered. In terms of flow of information , in deductive technique it is from general tto spesific. Firstly, information is given, it is made clear with examples and it is wanted that students practice to given exercises. In contrast to deductive, in inductive technique flow of information is from spesific to general. Firstly it is expected to students do activities about the subject ant then the rules and informations is given according to the practice. And about the students number in groups, deductive technique is suitible for crowded classes and large groups but inductive one is proper to smaller groups. And lastly, in terms of the structural aspects, deductive technique is structured,traditional and so predictable. However inducitve one is experimental, personalized and so understandable. But we can say thatt both of them can used in classes according to their aspects.
