Death Sentence and Structure for Sentencing
The question that gets more than its fair share of likes and dislikes is “Is the death penalty appropriate” and “should the death penalty be able to be handed down to criminals across the United States?” The opinions of the citizens from centuries ago to today’s times would much rather see a criminal spend life in prison than see them receive the death penalty. The death penalty has raised concerns about the failure rates of executions and people that are wrongfully accused being put to death. The issue with racism has become a larger issue with the death penalty, and even the cost that our country has to take in due to the experiments with the types of punishments for death. Society has stated the frustrations they have over the death penalty and want a different outcome for the criminals that are found guilty. The people today would rather see the criminal receive life in prison and would give up the death penalty as a punishment as long as certain sanctions are enforced upon the inmates. The toughest part of showing people to look at the death penalty as a harsher type of criminal punishment, but to get them to lean more towards life in prison with restrictions added. The concern about the sentencing structure that has raised some issues is the ethical parts of it, the deterrence issue, and the effectiveness deterrence has. People believe that deterrence should be a humane and the criminal justice system should respect the rights of the guilty persons. The issue there is that it does not always go that way. The deterrence issue has been considered a free pass to some criminals and if they do not get caught they can continue doing what they want. Many believe that in order to deter someone from committing crimes or the same crimes again is that the

The death penalty has been an ongoing debate for many years. The following essay will not solve the issue either; I will only try to persuade the reader to understand my point of view. The death penalty has both supporters and non-supporters. The death penalty is justified in certain cases such as Mcveigh Vs State of Indiana; however it is unjustified when in other cases, including Bloodsworth Vs State of Maryland. The death penalty is a must, especially in today 's society. With the increase in vicious crimes today, the government must act just as harsh with our justice system to try and prevent these types of crimes. Non-supporters argue that the death penalty is inhumane and should be considered murder. People of this malicious caliber must be dealt with in the same way, an eye for an eye. Putting these criminals to death doesn 't solve the crime that they committed, but it helps the victim 's family and friends to feel a sense of justification for what 's happened to them.…

After analyzing Ernest Van Den Haag’s case study ‘In Defense of the Death Penalty’, and Hugo A. Bedau’s ‘The Case Against the Death Penalty’, I have conflicting feelings contradict my own analysis. Ernest Van Den Haag breaks down the pros and cons of the death penalty and uses retributivism to justify death penalty and capital punishment, while Hugo A. Bedau’s article is about the inconsistency in capital punishment and in particular on the abolition of practice. Each article states key positions that make my feelings conflicted between both sides, Bedau backs up that the majority of people persecuted fight through several trails after a long period incarcerated with life sentenced to death end up guilty. (Bedau, 243) Van Den Haag key positions reflect in the retributivist statement, “eye for an eye”. (Van Den Haag, 231) I believe in both sides, and in my own opinion there is no solution for middle ground.…

Death by execution has existed as a punishment since the dawn of time. Although this has existed seemingly forever, the question of its moral side has also existed for that same amount of time. Killers kill innocent people, there is no question about that, but does that give us the right to kill these killers? I do not think so.…

In the poem “To an Athlete Dying Young” by A.E. Housman, a classical scholar and poet, who was once a Professor of Latin at University College, in London in 1892, and the song “My Hero” by the band Foo Fighters, an American rock band formed by singer/guitarist/drummer Dave Grohl in 1995, both talk about a hero who dies young and in the peak of their fame. Similar literary elements that the poem and the song shared were they both had apostrophe and both of their stanzas are quatrain. Something that “To an Athlete Dying Young” had that “My Hero” did not have was metaphors and personification. There are many crimes happen in the world every second, every hour and every day. The causes, effects and solutions to the problems of violent crimes is complicated and the rate of these crimes is the most prominent issue that people are most concerned. Similarity, the justice of some crimes always get much attention from victims and other citizens. In this essay, death penalty becomes a very controversial issue to discuss, many people support it and many people don't. Personally, I think death penalty is the most ferocious way of punishing a criminal. There are many methods of execution, like electrocution, gas chamber, hanging, firing squad and lethal injection. For me, I just watched once on TV, but it's enough to bring me nightmares. We only live once and we will lose anything we once had without life. Life is precious and can't just be taken away that easily. In my opinion, I think Canada shouldn't adopt the death penalty as its most severe form of criminal punishment. To support my stand, I have some reasons to explain.…

The cause of the death penalty more often then not is politically inspired. Fear has long been a favored method for controlling the population. In the case of the execution of those found guilty of murder in developed countries such as The USA , where the motivation is simply political. More votes are gained by appealing to the sense of justice exhibited in the lower educated classes than are to be gained by appealing to those that are more educated and trained in the exercise of reasoning. It is one of the failings of democracy. The effect of the death penalty is that if a person is a murderer he or she has nothing to lose by killing to cover their crime. No murderer commits a crime and intends to do the time.…

In the Philippines, the practice of capital punishment predates recorded history (See Chart 1), and only with the accession of Mrs. Corazon Aquino to presidential office, and the drafting of the new Constitution, was capital punishment abolished in 1987. The Aquino government was responsible for restoring various democratic institutions, including the Congress once regulated by Marcos. In 1993, the Philippine government under the Ramos administration reinstated capital punishment through the Republic Act (RA) 7659. The law argued that certain criminals deserve to die because of their horrendous acts; such crimes are considered so evil that killing the perpetrators is the only just way to deal with it. Accordingly, RA 7659 included thirteen classes of crime, but was later expanded to 46 capital offenses (Chan Robles [on-line], retrieved 2002).[2]…
