The problem with death penalty is very controversial. People divided over how to punish criminal. When a person did something wrong or broke the law, he would get punished, such as warnings, fines, detention, fixed-time imprisonment, life imprisonment and death. According to his mistake how serious, he would be sentenced to which punishment. But some people thought that everyone has made mistakes. So we should just give a small punishment to criminal rather than death penalty. In my opinion, the death penalty is a good way to protect citizens from some murderers.
The death penalty law executes in most places around the world. There are 33 states have death penalty in the US. Why do we kill people who kill people to show killing people is wrong?
In common, recent statistics tells us that the death penalty will scare murderers because everyone are afraid of death. Also, criminals are afraid of death because they think life in prison is less feared than death. According to Ernest Van Den Haag, of New York Times, “People fear nothing more than death.” Murderers prefer life in prison to death penalty. If they had a chance to choose, they would choose life in prison rather than death. In prison, they can enjoy every day like ordinary people. They not only have warm sunshine, tasty meal and comfortable sleep, but also have opportunity to study, play, and visit friends and family. They think life is less deterrent than death because they can still alive. So we should keep execute murderers because execution can stop further murders and protect citizens.
Prison almost never change people for the better. Some criminals are easy to appear, because of the complex social situation. These criminals are unable to forgive. When a person killed people, he didn’t receive death penalty. Maybe he would escape from the prison; maybe he would instigate others to killed people. It is dangerous to the society.
