Death of a salesman
The setting of Death of a Salesman takes place mostly in Willy Loman's home and backyard, but in the scenes where he is not in the house, we see him get fired in an office building and meeting his sons in a restaurant. Also, a good bit of the play takes place in Willy's mind. The story takes place in the 1940's when we had just ended WWII. The plot of the story was very interesting. Willy's wife Linda persuades Willy to ask his boss to let him work in New York so he won't have to travel. Willy asks his boss and ends up getting fired. Willy's son visits and he tells him to make something of himself. Biff tells Linda that Willy is a fake, and then Linda explains to him that he tried to commit suicide. A quote that characterizes Willy is "There's more people! That's what's ruining this country! The competition is maddening! Smell the stink from that apartment house! And the one on the other side... How can they whip cheese?" In this quote, Willy insists that the reason his family is doing so bad is due to population growth. There are many themes in this novel. Some of these include, American Dreams, Abandonment, and Betrayal. Willy talks mostly about the abandonment of his sons, the american dreams he once had, and the betrayal of his two sons and wife.
Some of the motifs in this novel include, the American West, Alaska, and the African Jungle. He works out in the west, but live in New york. He traveled to alaska when he should have traveled to Africa where he could have made millions with his brother who found a secret diamond mine. Millers connetction to Death of a Salesman was a very close connection. He was crazy and he knew he was. Willy was very much dedicatecd to the death of the American Dream when he realized he lost everything because of the stock market. Miller had a very dark style of writing. He used a lot of words and thought a lot of things you wouldn't usually say. He talked bad about god most of the time. He also talked about

He did not set a good example to his sons by not admitting his faults. He did not make his family his number one priority. Instead, it was his work, coming before his family, his friends, and even himself. Throughout the years many have tried to analyze and interpret Arthur Miller's character Willy in the novel Death of a salesman, attempting to establish his real influences and manipulation of the plot and fellow character's outcome. After my studying of the novel I have come to the conclusion that Willy's character is both a victimizer and a victim. Willy's action influences his family's lives in various ways such as brainwashing his son Happy into pursuing his competitive and destructive desire to be "well-liked" and attain the "American dream", while he has a bipolar relationship with his other son Biff. Willy is a very dominate character in the play and although he desperately relies on his wife Linda, he is emotionally unavailable to…

“Death of a Salesman” represents the modernist literature. Modernism is a style of literature that came about after World War I in Europe. It emerged in the United States in the late 1920s. Modernism was the response to the commotion, which occurred during World War I. The narrator in the play is limited and omniscient; he or she observes the thoughts and actions of Willy, Biff, and other central characters in the story, a type of narration that was new to literature. Instead of writing literature objectively, many authors started to use a subjective writing style. Miller captures this in the character of Willy. The readers are able to see the world through the eyes of this one character and what is going on inside of his head in many instances such as when he imagines seeing his brother and says “Ben, I’ve go to talk to you.”…
