Daymon Reflection

As the fall semester is coming to a close, I’m pleased to say that I feel comfortable and familiar with the campus at UIS. That familiarity is especially present when I enter the Learning Hub. I have visited the Hub countless times over the course of this semester to complete study hours, receive tutoring, and revise papers, so it has become somewhat of a second home for me. The staff and environment there have definitely helped me transition into the world of college academics. Their services have helped me master course material and stay on track with my assignments all throughout this semester. He made comments all throughout the essay, both commending the work I had already done and also providing suggestions about how to improve upon my ideas. Specifically, one of his recommendations was to include a unique title rather than a mundane one. He pointed out that the title can be an opportunity for the author to creatively preview the content of the essay to the reader. I agree with him, so I plan to add an interesting title to my final essay. Daymon also proposed that I elaborate on the effects of the media’s framing as it pertains to my athlete, rather than just explain the aspects of the frames. I believe that in doing so, the ideas already included in my essay will be expanded and developed. Therefore, I will integrate this suggestion in my paper. Finally, he advised that I examine the connection between the various media frames discussed in my essay and how they relate to one another. Again, I will follow through with this because it will give depth to my essay, and it will help to tie it all together. Next semester I won’t be required to record study hours, and it is unlikely that I will need to visit the Hub as an assignment for classes anymore. However, there is no doubt in my mind that I will continue to be a frequent visitor there. The academic assistance, knowledge, and support that is given at the Hub is second to none. This semester, I have utilized the Hub mainly for math tutoring and essay revisions, both of which have helped maintain a high level of academic performance. For that reason, I plan to continue employing its services during the spring semester as well. I may even go there every now and then to study or complete homework assignments. The Hub’s atmosphere is so academically centered that staying focused and getting things done while you’re there is effortless. The Hub is a resource that is advantageous and invaluable, and I’m not quite ready to part ways with it
