Davy Crockett: The King Of The Wild Frontier
Davy Crockett, the King of the Wild Frontier, was a great hunter, and fighter of war. He was also known as the best shooter in the east.
Davy Crockett was born on August 17, 1786 in Greene County, Tennessee. David was the fifth child born in his family of nine. He lived with his parents John, and Rebecca Crockett. Davy’s father was a veteran in the American Revolutionary War. After the war John worked as a magistrate, a farmer, and a land speculator. David’s parents were poor, but they very worked hard to support their children. Two years after the Crocketts opened a tavern Crockett’s father hired him out a man named Jacob Siler to help him with labor work. Crockett began his military career in 1813. Crockett went to war when he got back he became a member of The House of Representatives in Tennessee. However he was not done, On November 3 under the power of Andrew Jackson, Crockett participated in the massacre of the Indian town of Tallushatchee. Once Crocketts time expired he went back home to his family the day before Christmas, and found his wife had died. Crockett re enlisted on september 28, 1814 as a third sergeant under Capt. John Cowan. Once he arrived he spent his time trying to get rid of the British trained Indians in the Florida swamps. After being discharged he soon found a widowed lady by the name of Elizabeth Patton. Elizabeth had two children (George and Margaret Ann.) Crockett explored Alabama during the fall with an eye out for settlement. Davy almost died-In fact was reported dead-from malaria. Crockett's family was very happy,however when they found he had been resurrected. On New Years Day in 1821 Crockett resigned as commissioner to run for a seat in the Tennessee legislature as the representative of Lawrence and Hickman counties. Davy won the election in August. After hs session ended he moved his family to what is now Gibson County West Tennessee. Crockett was re-elected in 1823, defeating Dr. William E. Butler, but was then defeated in August 1825. In 1826, Crockett nearly died when his boats carrying barrels were wrecked in the Mississippi river. Crockett’s reputation brought him to be a national prominence. He was the model of Nimrod Wildfire, the Hero of the play The Lion of the West. The formidable David Crockett in his own right was a hero that succeeded.
