The engaging, alluring scent of the wildflowers on a farm matches that of fabric softener, expensive lotions, and fresh pinecones, but about 100 yards from this pleasing scent exists a rather smelly one that comes from the hog houses filled with the feces of a thousand pigs. When the noun smell becomes the adjective smelly, it changes the meaning-- changes it from an engaging alluring scent to a repulsive, vile one. This bad smell resembles the scents of Farty Fred, Pig-Pen, and David Smith. Groomed and gas filled, Farty Fred fears the gas inside him. Once a short, fat boy, now a tall, well-built one, he acquired quite a stench throughout the quick transition. His armpits and feet could have killed the pigs in the hog confinements, but he could not smell a thing. Like most boys, he does not get very excited about showering, brushing his teeth, and applying deodorant. If he did, his name would not show up in this essay. The strong smell is almost hot, and over the course of a few years, he received enough comments and looks to understand the criticism his sister gave him about his stench was not just malice; he reeked, and everyone knew it. Making deodorant a habit made a substantial difference, but his showering and teeth cleansing habits could use some work. The odor has become less smelly than before, but his future, non-smelly days cannot come soon enough. Although the unpleasant smells of Farty Fred, Pig-Pen, and David seem terrible, always look for a positive. If these repulsive, vile smells did not exist to compare to the engaging, alluring ones, they would not smell nearly as good. Also, the more time spent around these smelly smells, the less powerful their stench becomes. So the next time something stinks, remember this: for every bad scent there is a good one
