J.C. Penny is creating a new interface for retail, offering new boutiques in the store. Today there are 17 shops. In the future there will be a 100 shops. This should aid in appealing to a diverse set of customers by essentially creating a “mall within a mall”. (JCP Online, 2013)…
The two stores’ atmospheres that I will compare in this paper will be J.C. Penney and Kohl’s. Both stores are very similar in every aspect. They are both retailers that offer a variety of goods, such as apparel, shoes, and accessories for women, children and men, and home products such as small electronics, kitchen electrics, electric shavers, toothbrushes, vacuums & floor care, bedding, toys, and luggage. Basically anything you would ever need to survive except for food is offered at both of these retailers.…
On Saturday November 9, 2014 from 12:00 PM to 1:00PM EST I sat in the Centre of Salisbury mall in Salisbury Maryland. I sat on the north side of the mall near the entrance and at this end of the mall there is a movie theatre, a Game Stop video game store and a large sporting good’s store called Dicks Sporting goods and not to far off from where I was sitting on the east side from where I was at is the food court. I was sitting in a square shaped bench that had four sides to it and I was sitting on the bench facing in. Overall the environment was very nice with a large skylight type archway that let in the sunshine and made it feel warm in the mall and its was already decorated for the holiday season with xmas trees and flowers strewn throughout the corridors. About twenty five feet from where I was sitting was a wooden kiosk where they were selling throwback video game systems that attracted a lot of customers.…
The setting of an old, abandoned storefront is described when the author writes, "Visitors who drive to this tiny town wonder why it has not been torn down, and residents just look away" (Morrison 33).…

The essay Kids in the Mall: Growing Up Controlled, was written by William Severini Kowinski. Kowinski is examining the reasons for “mall culture” in this essay that he took from his book The Malling of America. Kowinski uses certain tones, word choice, and ordering is his essay to make it more appealing for his audience. The tone of the essay Kids in the Mall: Growing Up Controlled, is one of the keys to pulling off a good appealing essay. Then there is the word choice Kowinski goes with which goes with the tone he uses a little and makes it easier to read and more appealing to his readers. Last there is the order in which Kowinski explains the essay and makes his points.…

The Crossroads mall was slow on the Monday evening when I was observing it. There was a palpable lack of energy in the people passing by the bench where I sat. The black bench was centrally located in the mall, near a General Nutrition and a nail salon. I chose the Crossroads mall because I knew I would observe an interesting atmosphere. It was approximately 7:45 p.m. when I sat down to watch my surroundings.…
Truth be told, Mall of America and the retail division by and large have been assaulted in different parts of the world for as long as quite a few years. Israel has encountered or upset assaults against Mall of America on ten events since the begin of the Intifada in the West Bank in the mid-1990s. Nations as…
A suggestion that was used in the book was to add entertainment to the center of the mall. The entertainment can be anything from holiday shows, occasional concerts, a playground for kids, or even just an open area with comfortable resting spots where customers can relax and de-stress. A perfect type of idea would be a small coffee house type of area that serves coffee and soda with a waitresses on staff to cater to each patron’s needs. Especially during the holiday season, this would be a great relaxing way for customers to rest their feet and collect their thoughts before heading to the next store on the list.…

Guterson starts with statistics and facts on the Mall as a retail complex. Opened in the summer of 1992, the mall was conveniently located close to the Minneapolis- St. Paul Airport. How ironically placed. He starts to question the Mall and it’s creators. Was this Mall a tourist attraction? Or a zone of entertainment that is easily accessible to all types of people? Being a male, I feel that Guterson does not fully appreciate the resources found in this mall. Therefore, this is why he reacting negatively to the Mall. This Mall was designed to not only be a mall, but to also be a tourist attraction that would draw a diversity of different people.…

In the current market scenario, both consumers and retailers have limited choice in terms of mall shopping experience. As organised retail grows, we expect the market to be more competitive by providing more choices to consumers and retailers. At this point, developers will have to work harder to create a differentiation for their…
