Graded Writing Assignment 1 – Data Commentary – Chart #5

According to a chart created by using the IMF DataMapper, the real per capita GDP of several Asian countries has risen since 2008 and will continue to rise. Despite this similarity, the Asian countries in the chart can be divided into four groups.

The data in the chart indicates that Malaysia is moderately distinguished among other Asian countries. Since 2008, it has become the highest per capita GDP of $14,000 that will increase with a similar trend in the future prediction. Second group of countries are China and Thailand which will be reached at the same level of per capita GDP middle of the 2013. However their growth rate will continuously increase in recent years. Exclusively, per capita GDP of China is expected to reach $12,000 in 2015 and considerably doubled to compare with in 2008. Moreover, Indonesia, India, Vietnam and Philippines are considered as 3rd group’s countries. The growth rates of these countries will be assumed to stable until 2015. Eventually, last group of countries are Cambodia, Bangladesh and Myanmar. Also chart implies that these countries rate has changed slightly since 2008, whereas the GDP are still going to increase slowly hereafter.

Possible reason for the economic growth of the countries has extremely correlated with private consumption, gross investment, government finance, export and import. Other factors may also play important roles population. Indeed India whose economic development is slower than that of Indonesia, which is rapidly, increased its population growth. As per capita GDP indication about the economic growth it similarly implies that the higher rate of per capita GDP, the better the living standards of population in that country.

For Thailand and China and for Malaysia, the significance of their economic growth is the rise in income above the $6,000 per capita GDP line. This means that it is likely

Economic growth in the Asian tigers roughly reached an 8% increase. These four economies succeeded in developing much faster then any other economy. These economies started growing after World War 2, around the 1960’s. Each of these economies has different reasons to what led them to experience great economic growth. Lets start with South Korea, Korea was originally blessed with great geography but they were stuck fighting civil wars; that were bringing their economies down. After the Korean War had ended, the U.S started to get worried that communism was spreading amongst the nation. The U.S decided to start helping Korea develop its market. They paid for 70% of South Korea’s exports. This allowed them to sell products on the market for much lower prices than their competitors. They were no longer held back by welfare; South Korea started investing a lot of money into their public school programs. This eventually led to Korea becoming one of the most educated countries in the world. South Korea then became one of…

In the recent year, there are rapid economic growth in the a few Asian countries. Japan, ‘four little tiger’ (China, South Korea, Taiwan and Singapore), Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand are involved in the East Asian Miracle. These countries follow the flying geese approach to learn from the past experience of other countries so as to achieve a sustained economic growth. South Korea is a good example that imitates Japan in terms of development in heavy industries like steel, shipbuilding, and automobiles (Jayanthakumaran, 2016). The four little tigers replicate the development of Japan and the other East Asian countries follow the four little tigers. This approach spreads the success of Japan to other Asian countries and…

Finally under its own control, the people’s democratic republic of Laos now has the chance to grow and prosper. Laos’ GDP experienced substantial growth rates during the years after the Vietnam War, peaking at fifteen percent in 1981. This has since settled down to an average of six percent throughout the nineties and the twenty first century. With this continual growth in GDP, the purchasing-power-parity per capita GDP was able to continuously increase. Per capita GDP grew from 362 international dollars in 1980 to over two thousand international dollars in 2009 (Graph 1). But often during growth, the data is skewed as the rich become richer and the poor stay poor. This happened to Laos, and can be seen by looking at the income inequality in Laos as shown by the Gini coefficient. From 1992-93 the coefficient was 28.6. Five years later from 1997-98 the coefficient was 35.7. This is a 4.4 percent growth rate in the coefficient, caused from the first four quintiles losing their portion of the income, and the top quintile experiencing a 2.9 percent growth (Lengsavad, 2000).…
