Data Analysis Lab Report
The purpose of this experiment was to discover the suitable ways of organizing experimental data in the form of tables and graphs by proficiently using Microsoft Excel. After being provided with a set of experimental data, a graph is then created. The graph contains useful information such as the slope, which could give the density value. The calculation of significant figures was one of the key objectives in this lab as well. Significant figures are essential to interpreting data because they allow for increased precision and accuracy. Also, using Excel, the density calculations could be performed quickly and accurately. In this experiment, the density of water was found by collecting the masses known, which was volumes of water. To determine what the unknown density is, the mass should be divided by the volume.

The densities of water were obtained, by regulating the masses of samples of known volumes. In table 1 it includes the densities of 25.00 mL samples of water

In order to solve for density, first the mass must be known (which is in grams) and then find the volume (mL or cm3). Once the mass and volume are found, you divide the mass by the volume. The average for mass (g) is 24.89 and

SD is the unit to which different types of copies that change from the sample mean. SD informs us how the data is distributed when in regards to the mean. The less the standard deviation, the less uncertainty there is. This allows one to build more certainty relating to their experiment. A disadvantage, when it comes to including many points, is when fitting a curve, the points are not located near the averages. This can result in a lot of confusion with the linear equation. On the other hand, an advantage when it comes to including several points, when attempting to fit a portion of a non-linear curve to a line, is being able to develop a linear equation that demonstrates the data on the

    III. Procedure- The first thing one must do to identify which substance is which is to calculate the densities. To do this, one must take the mass and volume of each individual substance. Starting with mass, one can use the triple beam balance. Make sure the balanced is zeroed. Once that is true, place the object onto the balance a carefully find the mass of the object. Repeat and record the results found of each individual substance. To find the volume, one can use the water displacement method. One will fill up a graduated cylinder with water to a specific amount. 20 mL is sufficient. Once completed, one will drop one of the substances into the graduated cylinder and record how far the water level rises.     1. The Respiratory exchange ratio is the ratio of the volume of carbon dioxide produced and oxygen consumed. The ratio indicates the energy that the subject is expending for indirect calorimetry, how efficient the subject 's body is at utilizing the oxygen inhaled, as well as the main substrate being used for energy during varying intensities of exercise. During rest the volume of carbon dioxide was 0.73L/min, the volume of oxygen was 0.84L/min. The RQ or RER was 0.87. The ratio indicates that roughly 68% of the kcal that the subject was using came from carbohydrates and the remaining 32% of the kcal came from fat. The RQ was 0.79, which indicates that the 33% of the kcal that the subject was using came from carbohydrates and that 67% of the kcal came from fat. In the 100W stage the volume of carbon dioxide was 4.08L/min and the volume of oxygen consumed was 4.1L/min. The RQ came out o be 0.99, the substrate being used was only carbohydrates at this point. The 200w stage had a carbon dioxide volume of 7.91L/min and a oxygen consumed volume of 6.51L/min.     The purpose of the Density Lab was to determine the identity of four unknown solids and two unknown liquids by calculating their densities and comparing them to a density chart, taking into account error analysis and finally classifying the substances. In order to calculate this density, we first found the mass of the container that was to be holding the substances. We then found the volume of the substance, and lastly determined the mass of the container and substance. We subtracted (Container + Substance) – Container to find the mass of simply the substance. In order to distinguish density, we took the final mass divided by the volume, and identified the substances based on Density Charts we found online. Originally we hypothesized that we would be able to identify these substances based on the densities we calculated, yet this proved to be harder than it seemed, however our hypothesis was correct.
