Dallas Cowboys Tight-End Case Study
Tight-End Thursday: Evaluating the 3 best in Dallas Cowboys History

The Tight-End position has drastically evolved throughout the history of football as they have given greater productivity to offenses than in the past. According to the NFL, in 2011 of the fifteen players with the most receptions 5 of them were tight ends.

The first question one must ask themselves when ranking a position on the field is, “What characteristics and statistics make a good tight-end?” So that is where I started.

Jason Witten- Career Stats as of 2014: Receptions- 943 Receiving Yards- 10,502 Touchdowns- 57

You do not have to a Dallas Cowboys fan to know current tight end Jason Witten. In 2003, Witten was selected by the Cowboys as the 5th pick in the 3rd …show more content…
He is currently the leader in a couple categories for the Cowboys franchise and a the NFL.
Including:
Cowboys all-time career leader in receptions
Cowboys record for 18 receptions in a game by a tight end
NFL record of 18 receptions in a game by a tight end
NFL record of 110 receptions in a single season by a tight end
He is second all time in career receptions and receiving yards by a tight end

Despite the numbers that all three receivers have, what puts Witten in first place for me is his leadership and toughness. Remember when his helmet was knocked off, but he kept fighting for yards? He is also a huge proponent of the NFL Play 360 program. 13 seasons in and, Witten continues to add to his career.
