Background
Dalian Wanda is a Chinese conglomerate company with activities in real estate, tourism, hotels, and entertainment. The company was founded in 1988 as a residential real estate company by Wang Jianlin (now one of the richest people in China).Since 2005, it has diversified into 10 arenas, including cinemas, film production, film industry parks, performing arts, film technology entertainment, theme parks, entertainment franchises, print media, art investment and travel. Wanda is the world’s largest cinema operator, with 6,200 movie screen, AMC Entertainment is the world’s second largest theater chain, with 5000 movie screens in 380 locations across the US, Canada, Japan and other countries. Wanda is also the owner of “Superstar”, China’s largest karaoke chain, 89 karaoke centers.
Case of study
On 19th June 2013 Dalian Wanda announced the major UK investment program:
The acquisition of a majority stake in UK luxury yacht manufacturer Sunseeker for £ 320 million, which in 1970 was known as Poole Power Boats, started molding and fitting out boats from a small manufacturing facility located in Poole on the south coast of England. They started making design changes to yacht in order to export to the Mediterranean and start focusing in luxury motor yachts. Sunseeker has over 2,200 employees and is represented on every continent by a network of distributors. Available from 40 – 155 feet, the Sunseeker range constantly sets new standards and benchmarks. Never settling for second best, it’s this spirit of excellence that has driven Sunseeker to its pre-eminent position in the marine market today.1
Plans to develop a real estate project in Central London, which will include a five-star luxury hotel, with a total investment value of £ 700 million2, the first luxury hotel by this company overseas will be situated
