Dalai Lama Research Paper
The 14th Dalai Lama once said, “This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples, no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple. The philosophy is kindness.” Dalai Lama explains that kindness is what he believes in. It is what he worships and it is what he bases his life choices upon. I relate to the Dalai Lama because I believe in the power of kindness, too, among other beliefs. Being kind is something very beneficial and aiding for me and for other people, as well. Just the simple things, such as telling someone they look beautiful, or just saying “Hello” could change a person’s day. The power of kindness is very immense, and can create a contagion in an instant. Kindness has been something I’ve believed in my whole life. While growing up, I remember a poster which sat on the wall directly in front of me in my 4th grade math class.It was the Golden Rule, which is “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Every day my math teacher, Mr. Lee, would make us recite the poster so we could remember it. I never understood the saying until I actually had a situation where I had to apply the rule. This happened in sixth grade. Whether it’s making my mom proud, offering to help someone with homework, or simply telling someone they look radiant. Kindness is a self-rewarding action that makes a person feel good about themselves as well as the person that they are making an impact on. Imagine if terrorists were nice to the United States, or if hunters were nice to pandas, or if the police were kind to the 136 innocent victims who were killed from police brutality just this year. Imagine if all humans were kind to one another. Then there’d be no murder or any suicides. Everybody would be happy and the world would be a much better
