Cyrano
The book Cyrano de Bergerac was actually a very interesting book. It was about a tragic hero named Cyrano who was secretly in love with his debonair cousin Roxane. He hid his love for her because he had low self-esteem and believed he was too hideous to be loved. Some would describe Cyrano as a poet, musician, The speaker of the story is Cyrano. In my opinion, Cyrano had an extremely large amount of confidence in his swordsmanship, but none when it came to his outer appearance. When Ligniere told Cyrano about the one hundred men waiting to kill him at Porte de Nesle and being fearful of his life; Cyrano offered to escort him home. When they arrived at his home, Cyrano fought all one hundred men and claimed victory. The next day at the pastry shop where he met Roxane, she began to talk about her love interest and Cyrano started to believe she was talking about him. As so as she said the word beautiful, Cyrano automatically assumed it was someone else. This comes to show that even though Cyrano was one of the bravest men and could claim victory in any fight; he had no confidence when it came to his appearance and his love life. Even people with the most confidence can let one flaw bring them down. I believe this piece is directed to anyone with low self-esteem and doesn’t believe that they can be loved for how they look. Take Cyrano for example, he believed that Roxane would never love him because of his ridiculously large nose. When Cyrano was writing the letters for Christian to Roxane he was telling his to her; the only problem was that it was addressed as if Christian had wrote it.
