CYP Core 3.3.1 - Understand the main legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures for safeguarding children and young people.
1.1 - . Outline current legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures within own UK Home Nation affecting the safeguarding of children and young people.
Children’s Act - this is the main piece of legislation on what children’s services are based upon. This act aims to improve children’s services by bringing together all professionals to work together as a team to make a difference to all children in care under the children’s act. The aims of this act are to improve safeguarding to all children. The children’s act is child centred and aims to do all things in the best interests of the children.
Every Child Matters 2005. This piece of legislation works together with the children’s act. There are 5 outcomes to this piece of legislation they are be healthy, stay safe, enjoy and achieve, make a positive contribution and enjoy an economic wellbeing. The aims of this act are to support every child whatever their background and circumstances. All Local authorities will work together to find out what is best for every child and young person in its area and acting on this. Children will be involved in the process and views of the children will be taken into account.
Working together to Safeguard Children 2010 - This legislation promotes the working together of all organisations to promote the welfare of children in the accordance to the children’s act. The UK Government has defined the term ‘safeguarding children’ as: ‘The process of protecting children from abuse or neglect, preventing impairment of their health and development, and ensuring they are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care that enables children to have optimum life chances and enter adulthood successfully. As children move through transition to adult services, the legislation that is available is Protection of vulnerable Adults
