Cyberbullying Victims In The US
Cyberbullying victims hardly come forward and face their attackers. Victims are scared to come forward for fear of retaliation, feeling ashamed and many other things. What they do not know or fail to understand is that victims are never responsible for what is happening. Everything that is being done about it now is most commonly because of an incident that has already happened. It is sad to say it but it is true. Like many other things it is often too late but better than never. The only time a case is hopeless is when nothing can be done and with bullying that should never happen. The cases of Amanda Todd, Phoebe Prince, Tyler Clementi and many more were easily preventable. Most bullies feel sorry after the truth of their torment is public …show more content…
Stories of schools being sued for doing too much are popping up left and right in the new. If schools do too little the are sued for negligence. If a school does too much they are accused of violating students right to free speech. In the cases of Phoebe Prince the truth whether or not South Hadley High school knew about the harassment going on, the school had a no tolerance policy when it came to bullying and harassment yet the students responsible were on given minor disciplinary actions. The school justifies this by saying there was no set definition or standard for when intervention was necessary. Either way the schools that practice the same beliefs are held liable for the actions of students. Parents of the victims go on a personal crusade to knocking down anything in their path stopping them receiving closure and justice. The accused are usually held responsible, and eventually regret the harm that they have caused. Many foundations have made it the mission to help the stop and enlighten uses of the danger of cyber bullying and harassment. The extent of the damage will range, all depending on whether the targets are well aware of the resources at their disposal and it help is sought. In the age where anything is one click away people would think that these issues would not be a problem but never the less the issues are there. Phoebe Prince and all the other teenagers who resorted to suicide could have been saved if the appropriate actions had been taken and if the bullies had seem the extent of the damage that had been caused. Parents have new methods of keeping track of children. Whatever it maybe society is slowly evolving with the rest of those who are aware of the importance. The answer to “What is being down about cyber bullying and harassment?”, is easy. Everything, everything that can be. The rest is up to the victims. If it happening on school seek help, if it is happening on social media and at school seek justice. Do not stay quiet if you stay quiet the enemies

    Cyber bullying is when someone is harassing someone else online with electronic means like a phone or computer or even through messaging. It’s a type of bullying that is not face to face. The difference between cyber bullying is different is because it can happen twenty four hours a day, seven days a week. Some may be bullied when they are by themselves. There are many risks to cyber bullying, the worst one would be attempt of suicide because the victim might be confused and might not know how to ask for help. In a report by the ABC News in 2006, a survey was conducted on 1500 students in the grades between 4-8 and gave the following findings.42% of the children had experienced some form of bullying while online. 35% of them had received threats while online.21percentage had received threatening and mean emails or other forms of messages. 58% of the kids admitted that they had received hurtful information while online while the most shocking statistic was that 58% of these kids did not tell any adult about the form of harassment they receive while online. This clearly shows that a very large number of teenagers are being involved in cyber bullying and their parents or teachers are not even aware.     There has been many cases in which a student has reported, to a trusted staff member in school, that they were being harassed through social media, but little to nothing was done to stop the act because the school had no way of dealing with such actions. In one such case a young girl, by the name Nicole, reported to her parents that she was being bullied online. Her parents then contacted the school and asked for assistance but the school could not do anything. In the online article, The Girl Who Got Even: A True Cyberbullying Story, the author states, “Her parents contacted the school, but officials weren’t prepared to help. “At that point, the school didn’t have a specific plan on how to react to cyberbullying, so they just offered condolences for what was happening,” By not having a proper plan to deal with the bullying done on social media things got worse for Nicole, but fortunately enough she learned to ignore the negativity and it did not get to the point in which she committed suicide. This is not only a problem at this school, as many schools across the country have no proper way to deal with bullying done on social media and face the same obstacles when trying to resolve these issues.
