Cyber Bullying
Suicide is the third leading cause among young people. At least half of suicides among young people are related to bullying. In United States and United Kingdom cyber bullying is become more of a problem, every minute someone is effected by cyber bullying. Many children and teenagers are facing the experience of being bullied, but the internet is becoming a place where bullies are hiding their face and taking harassment to a whole new level pain.
Cyber bullying has emotional and physiological impact on the child. Bullying is a humiliating experience for a child. Kids who are bullied feel like no one cares or could understand. Cyber bullying has a bigger impact on a child than face to face bullying. Bullying on the internet cannot be escaped because it is a never ending problem. (“What is Cyber bullying?”) Fifty percent of teens report repeatedly being bullied thru the internet or their cell phones. (“What is Cyber bullying?”) Eighty-one percent of teens say that others cyber bully because they think it are funny. (Richard Webster)
The first recognized bully suicide was in 1967. Suicide has become a big issue in the United States because of cyber bullying. Suicide is the third leading cause of death among teenagers, with 4,400 deaths a year and 100 suicide attempts a year. At least half of the suicides are related to bullying. (Matt Dickinson) Bullying victims are between two to nine times more likely to consider suicide than non-victim. (Matt Dickinson) Ages tens to fourteen years old may be at even higher risk for suicide. (Matt Dickinson) The suicides of Phoebe Prince, Megan Meir, Ryan Haligan, Jamey Rodemeyer, and Tyler Clementi are the suicides that shocked the nation.
Conclusion/Commentary
United States started passing laws to penalize the bully or bullies. Fifty states and Puerto Rico have laws and policies passed against bullying and cyber bullying. (“Policies and Laws”) Groups like Global Cyber Law Database aim to become successful source of cyber
