What’s wrong with the government creating a law that forces teens to be home at a certain hour or receive harsh punishments? “Age is not an accomplishment, and youth is not a sin” (Robert Heinlein). When a curfew is established the effected people, who are the teenagers, are not asked for their vote or opinion, they are not being allowed to exercise their freedom of speech. Although some people believe that there should be a law made for children to be home at a certain hour, government should not be allowed to mandate curfews for children and teenagers, more teen crimes have been committed during the day rather than at night time, if 16 year olds are allowed to have a job and be able to drive they should have the responsibility to stay out for as long as their parents allow them to, and making it a law won’t stop them from going out instead of staying home. Statistics have shown and proven that juveniles are more likely to commit crimes during the hours that are not covered by the curfew. There is no evidence to support the idea that teen curfews reduce the number of crimes, gangs, and disturbances that occur throughout the night. Crimes are usually committed after school up to 8 pm at night. A curfew does not make a change of violence that goes around, or that occurs during the daylight hours. Not all crimes are necessarily caused by teens, majority are actually caused by adults over the age of 18. Curfews should only be put on teens who have gave them reasons to be punished, it isn’t right to look at teenagers behavior based on some juveniles. Lots of students after school tend to go hang out at the park to go smoke, are they 18? No, they are not, but still choose to do it anyway. They don’t need it to be dark to do any of the stuff they want to do. A teen can get into as much trouble during the day as they can during the night. If all they want is the safety of others than why not just accept to putting a curfew for everyone regardless of age? Teens are
