Culture. You often hear this word at home, in the news, or at school. Culture is something that defines you. Something that can describe you. It is what makes you similar to some people, and what can make you drastically different from others. What is culture? Culture is something you and a group of people share that are similar to one another. A culture is a way of life for a group of people and their behaviors, beliefs, values, and symbols that they accept, generally without thinking about them. They are also passed along by communication and imitation from one generation to the next. You might share a unique set of behaviors and attitudes with someone of the same culture. You might even share the same religion or language with that person.

As Americans, we have our own unique culture, and feel a sense of identity as a nation, while living in the same geographic region. We are a society. An American society and a Chinese society differ in many ways. Each society has a special set of behavior and attitudes that are distinct from other societies. Culture has been changed and passes down multiple times by your ancestors before you. Changes can come rapidly or slowly depending on the culture. Cultures can also be spread out and distributed by people of that same culture. Differences in cultures have led to a diversity of the people from different parts of the world. One way that culture can be spread is through diffusion. Diffusion is the spread of ideas, inventions, or patterns of behavior. In the past, cultures spread slowly through the everyday interactions of people. Common interactions included trading, marriage, war, travel and religious missions. In this way, cultural ideas and customs spread very slowly. A new wife would introduce new foods to her husband's family or warriors would take some customs home with them after spending some time in enemy territory.
