EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

It is always best to do extensive research when getting ready to venture off to another part of the world, especially out of the country. I will be going to Vietnam to do business abroad. I wanted to conduct myself in an appropriate business manner; therefore, I had to do my research. During this research, I saw my findings to be extremely helpful.

The topics I will be covering in this paper are:

Background. I believe having knowledge of the countries background will give me a leg up during business meetings.

Business Culture. This report will cover the importance of conducting oneself while in a business setting as well as how to do so.

Social Culture. Because I will be living here. It is important for me to know the social customs and cultures for myself as well as my family.

Within my findings, I found the business etiquette to be extremely resourceful. Maintaining personal space and limited touch is extremely important

Vietnam is a remote land with a vast array of forests and wetlands, which are rich in wildlife and natural resources. For this reason, many more advanced nations attempted to overtake Vietnam in conquest. Vietnamese history is scattered with war, slavery, and triumph. Outside influences attempted to help the struggling country re-build and repair a torn culture (Hai Venu, 2009). To better understand a culture there needs to be an understanding of the people that made up the history. In this paper, a better understanding will be gained to why the Vietnamese people are so passionate and have fought so hard for their freedom (Vietnam & 20th Century Experience, Lesson 1).…

“[History] does not refer merely, or even principally, to the past. On the contrary, the great force of history comes from the fact that we carry it within us, are unconsciously controlled by it in many ways, and history is literally present in all that we do. It could scarcely be otherwise, since it is to history that we owe our frames of reference, our identities,…

Voices from Vietnam, a book by Barry Denenberg to some it can be comforting, some gruesome, and to some informative. This book is not just a group of facts with the main events of the war, it talks with many different people that had very important jobs during the war. To me this book was very informative because I knew very little about the war. A few well known people have writings in this book such as President Dwight D. Eisenhower. It is very interesting to see the very diverse experience of the war. Although, they are all different people and played different roles in the war, the stories all relate in some way.…

Religious strife and totalitarian regimes have always been enemies of religious freedom. Dominant religions are sometimes accustomed to wielding legal authority and that power may be abused. Totalitarian religious regimes can be particularly malevolent as they claim divine right for the heinous acts they commit. Nowhere is this more apparent than Vietnam, which was heavily influenced by a totalitarian French Catholicism. The Vietnamese French Catholics oppressed Buddhists economically and politically, which led to month’s long religious violence and a shocking form of protest in August, 1963.…

The overall topic of my research is the Vietnam War, but I will be exploring more in depth how the media illustrates not only the war but also the effect of the war on the homeland of the United States. During the Vietnam war there were many problems facing soldiers, citizens, and the United States as a whole country. The media has the power to bring all of these problems and truths to light in ways such as films, so in my paper I will see how the media has captured the history of the United States during the war and its’ effects into modern day films in order to inform the public of the brutal time period.…

“The antiwar movement of the 1960’s grew out of discontent with the government and the status quo, as well as an increasing feeling that war, especially the war in Vietnam, was unjust.”(“Anti-War”). The Vietnam War strongly impacted America, and shaped it into the country it is today. With this war, the counter culture emerged. These members displayed strong anti-war feelings for the first time in U.S. history with student movements, demonstrations, and sometimes parades. The culture of America forever changed with the civil rights movement, women’s rights, and the famous hippies making a stand in the society. The 1960’s paved the way for a new future in the country.…

Funny you say “if you might take a trip” because I have taken that trip with my soldiers once before, along with other deployments to different places such as Kuwait and Iraq. Having to learn about their culture is a very important part of succeeding the mission at hand, most definitely. It’s a huge sign of respect to the Afghan society and others to know or be willing to learn about their culture and way of life. By doing that you are opening many doors of communication like the article mentioned. You may not like or agree with many of their cultural ways, but by learning and keeping an opened mind helps ease the tension you feel as you walk off that plane into their homeland. Cultural relativism majorly impacts the War on Terror because people…

After I read about the Vietnam Wars I can infer that the Vietnamese people and culture over the centuries have been very proud and have stayed almost the same over the time periods of war and struggles. It all started in 208 B.C. from what I have read. The Vietnamese people were first invaded by China time and time again and continuously being pushed around. Every single time the Chinese invaded Vietnam, Vietnam became a territory of the Chinese. Every single time a rebellion would end up sparking though, and every time a rebellion happened the Vietnamese would gain back their independence from the Chinese. Finally in 1428 A.D. a rebellion started while Vietnam was under Chinese rule and they used political persuasion this time instead of war.…
