I became aware of people being treated differently because of race, culture or religion back when I was in Elementary. I was in fourth grade when one of my classmates was treated different because she will dress differently from the rest of us. My classmates was from a religion that she was not allowed to wear jean pants or shorts, she was only allowed to wear long skirts that cover her legs. I noticed my classmates did not wanted to play with her because she will wear long skirts and we had one classmates that will tell us not to play because she dresses ugly. I will play with her and did not care if she wear long skirts, that’s when I noticed people were being treated differently because of their religion. When I started middle school

Discrimination in our world is a common thing. It comes in all types of forms from the way we look, what religion you practice or the color or your skin. Throughout history this shows to be true with the Jews during WWII all the way to the African Americans in South Africa. Discrimination is a horrible event that has caused pain and suffering to even good people just based on the different ways people do things and the way some look.…

Over the past few weeks I have been observing how people with different race, ethnicity, religion, etc. are looked at differently and treated. Some stories I am going to share are of past experiences that I sought in the past few years. Most of these recordings have been in the workplace and one of a friend that kindly shared her experience with me. While doing these recordings on a notebook piece of paper, it hit me that life is not fair sometimes. People are cruel and don’t care what they say or do; hurt people. I myself never realized how I looked at people differently until this assignment.…

However, I have come to the understanding that being part of a subordinate culture specifically an African one, I have had to deal with a great deal of prejudice and discrimination based on my skin color. Most of my knowledge of my race has come through the focus of black history during the month of February. I remember watching a movie called To Kill a Mockingbird in high school, this movie sheds some light on the position and struggles blacks have had and still face in society, with respects to discrimination. Growing up, my parents were not very vocal about the topic of race in general, noting that, I was always told by my parents and in church, not to use hateful speech, and to treat everyone equally, as we all belong to one human…

Racial injustice has always existed as a terrible issue in our society from the very beginning. Although racism has come a long way from the start, in unfortunately is not fully extinct yet. Being treated differently because of the color of your skin has been such a sensitive issue that has been around a very long time. The Brown v. Board of Education case and the Ku Klux Klan helps explain the seriousness of racial injustice. The book, A Lesson Before Dying by Ernest J. Gaines, also explores how racial injustice was very much real.…

Growing up in my somewhat sheltered home community and then living in other areas of the United States I have learned over time that racism, discrimination, and stereotyping is practiced by all races. Most people may not even realize they are performing these behaviors when they are occurring. This can be seen in schools across America daily. When I was in high school there were different groups of people that only hung out with each other. Depending on how a person dressed, what race the person was, or what his or her grades were they were labeled and put into a specific group. No one dared try mingling with a group he or she did not belong to with fear of being humiliated. To prevent discrimination all clubs in school were open for all students to join. However, there was only 1.5% Black students in the entire…

The things that have happened over the years have showed the good and bad sides of racism. It has been a pattern throughout all generations. The Native Americans, the hispanics, and the Blacks, are all examples of people in history who were thought of as “inhumane” just because of their color. Most of these peoples were severely mistreated and beaten down. It is important for me to learn from this history, and to not fall into the crowd of accusing for race or thinking lower of someone because of their color.…

I don't think it's fair the way people treat other people just because of their race or their religion. I don't understand why someone can prejudice another person just for these reasons. Some people try and blame it on the past. For example, whites hating blacks and using them as slaves because I believe they were afraid of them. I think that was cruel treating them in such menial fashions. Another example of cruel behavior is the Holocaust. There aren't enough words to describe how unhuman I thought that tragedy was. The horrifying pictures I saw were unbearable. I wanted to cry. How could someone have so much hatred in their heart? To nearly wipe out a whole race, just because of their religion or ancestrial backround. There isn't an excuse for why the dream of people being treated fairly and respectfully can't come true! There is something terribly wrong with society today, the hatred a lot of people have against homosexuals. I don't understand why people have such negative feelings towards them. I'm Catholic and I believe in God and everything but I honestly think people are afraid. Besides I believe God loves us know matter what. It kills me to read and hear about teens being kicked out of their homes and end up on streets. Many teens eventually commit suicide because they're afraid to tell someone because today's society has struck fear into their hearts.…

In class, we read two stories. The first one, “Seventh Grade”, the main conflict is internal. Meaning it takes place inside your mind or body. Victor, the main character, has a crush and every time he is near her he seems to always say something dumb. The second one, “The Melting Pot”, main conflicts are external and towards different groups of people. Anna, the main character, lives in a neighborhood that is ethnically diverse. Some of the people are new comers and the rest are old timers. Ann is one of both because she has lived there for a long time, yet she is the daughter of an immigrant.…

In the American schools today one may walk down a hallway and be able to see numerous students from many diverse backgrounds. It some schools these ethnicities might have formed into clicks according to their country or religion, while in other schools the children may freely interact and befriend each other no matter what race or creed. While some schools freely allow children to outwardly display their nationality in the form of flags, posters, clubs, crosses etc, there are many schools that forbid display of student’s religion or nationalism. This rule affects a student’s freedom of speech, which in turn affects this melting pot of cultures that America has come to become.…

Our planet has been filled with cases of discrimination throughout history, whether it be because of origin, race, or religion. Many think of discrimination as a horrible thing that people should not to, but sadly most of us still discriminate. Discrimination can sometimes lead to horrible things, as seen in Germany, where death and despair reaps many who were discriminated against because they were different. Another example of discrimination is when Spain tortured many poor innocent people because they did not want to convert to their religion, which was called the Spanish Inquisition. In America black men and women, just like us, were forced to be set to a lower standard of living that white men and women, just because of the color of their skin.…

There have been middle schools in the United States since the 1950s and 1960s. Although the grade levels are different between communities (5–8 or 6–8), middle schools have one thing in common: they do not work. Not only do students experience social difficulties, but their achievement levels decrease. Middle schools should be abandoned because they simply do not work.…

Unfortunately we have witnessed and continue to study the thoughts, beliefs, and actions from people who believed and still advocate the oppression of humans due to race or religion. There is evidence of educated doctors and scientists in the 1800s trying to justify slavery of blacks by providing and passing false evidence of them not being humans at all, but rather animals. You can also see the mistreatment of humans in the past due to religion. Those who have followed Judaism in the past have been viewed as an entire different entity and labeled as being…

My first awareness of race was when I saw some kid who looks completely different from me. He had completely different skin tone, and in many aspects don't quite look like myself. When I was in China, many of my classmates and peers were all look the same, but different in our own ways. That was the world to me until first grade, the first time of my life to see someone who is another race. He was an Irani. Even though he can speak fluent mandarin, I can tell he is different from us. That was when I first truly aware of race, besides from TV.…
