Another argument is that running uses so much energy that your body has to break down muscle in order to keep up. This argument is simply invalid, running does not break down your muscles, it simply breaks down the fat around your muscles, this in turn makes your arms look smaller, your legs look thinner and your body look weaker. Although this may be true to a visible aspect. When the fat is broken down around your muscles, your veins and arteries can function more proficiently. Another argument that football players and coaches put on the table is that football helps you gain muscle and become stronger. This is true, but at young ages, lifting can stunt your growth and damage your skeletal structure. “Most people are dominant on the front side of their bodies and weak on the backside” (Johnson). This Imbalance in strength can be very damaging to your spine and can lead to bad posture and back issues later down the road. Cross Country is by far the best sport for you because it has lots of health benefits, reduces the risk of depression and keeps your body fat ratio in a very healthy balance.
Although running may not be the most fun exercise it sure is better for you than football. Running is an art that if mastered, can lead to some very rewarding results. Many people argue that football is a better sport and a better form of exercise for you than Cross Country. In the 1970's, thousands of people took to the road with a new trend of exercise----running. It was fairly easy; just put one foot in front of the other as fast as you can and go as far as you can. Feel the burn in your chest? The sweat trickling down your face? The throb in your knees as your foot pounds into the ground with every step? Well then, you're exercising! You're running! Since then, running has become a dominant factor in sports and fitness; a factor so prevalent that the number of musculoskeletal injuries due to running has also increased over the last quarter century. These chronic injuries are usually due to overuse, improper training techniques, or a combination of the…

Another distinction between track and cross country is the time of year for each sport. Usually track begins at the end of winter, more towards the beginning of spring; this provides the season with very cool, bone-chilling weather that eventually warms up a bit. However, in cross country, the season begins at the end of summer and carries all throughout the fall; the weather is typically very warm and begins cooling down tremendously towards the end of the season. The weather varies exceedingly between the sports. Despite these differences, the two sports share some similarities.…

Running has many different aspects of workouts and forms. Outsiders of the sport make assumption that cross country and track seem similar, but in reality they’re different. Both deal with running, but the majority of the differences between the sports differentiate between the workouts, the actual meets, and the team oriented aspects between the two. Comparisons made by spectators report that if a runner enjoys cross country, then the runner should go out for track since it has long distance events as well. Even though track has long distance events it doesn’t change the fact the two sports differ from each other.…

When I decided to join track I felt as though it was the worst mistake that I could have ever made, simply because i did not like running as a child. After trying it for the first year and not giving up I enjoyed it very much and that is when I stated that I would continue to run track till I graduated high school. Then came ninth grade and not only did I continue to do Outdoor Track but I also joined Indoor Track and it helped me improve with my running for Outdoor Track. Participating on the Sutton High School cross country team has been one of the most rewarding yet stressful experiences of my life. For the past five years the Sutton cross country team has been a second home to me and season after season I return thirsting to vanquish a competitive fire. Although I'm ecstatic about competing this year, I was not always this happy about running. Five years ago I decided to try out for a sports team that involved less hand eye coordination (seeing how I have none) and tried out for the cross country team at my school. Almost immediately did I find out that a simple task like running could become much more strenuous not only on my legs and lungs but on the mind. While my body adjusts to the challenges of dirt…

“Every day is a good day when you run.” Kevin Nelson, who wrote The Runner's Book of Daily Inspiration, could not have been envisioning the mercurial weather of Rhode Island. As a three-sport athlete in Cross Country, Indoor Track and Outdoor Track, there is a certain commitment that one must have to be able to compete year-long in New England. Runners will often sugarcoat their feelings about running by saying it’s thrilling, satisfying and even fun. Although it can be personally fulfilling, it takes a lot of hard work, determination and perseverance to be an accomplished runner.…

For the past six years of my life, I ran for the Eureka Springs High School cross country team. After graduation, I was given the opportunity to run for the Golden Suns cross country team at Arkansas Tech University. In a matter of six months, my cross country experiences and habits were changed. Often times, there are similarities between two subjects such as these, but in this case, only the differences are obvious. There are changes in not only the way that I run, but the team I ran with, the coach I ran under, and the person I am when I run. These changes have caused me to see what I can do as a runner and a college student.…

i always heard that cross country happened a dangerous sport, and to me, that was the exciting part about it. As the summer went on, my confidence that I would reach my prime grew undoubtedly stronger every time i would look at at the improvements I did during the summer when getting ready for my first high school cross country season. I finished the summer session of the season and everything went as planned, capturing three amazing races that had me in the top 20 for those meets and I looked good to make regionals that year until one day during practice, all of that would lead downhill. Running after school on a sunny afternoon with the team and getting ready for the city meet, which all of the Brownsville schools would go plus other nearby valley schools, the sun flared its heat in our faces but the wind cooled off our sweat for a refreshing…

Swimming provides more resistance and works almost every muscle in the body. At the same time, the average swimmer does not continually knock off his laps without stopping for twenty straight minutes. Most of the time, people pace themselves in such a way that includes gliding or floating every few minutes before starting to swim hard again. At the end of every stroke there is a period of very low resistance, even if it is minimal. On the other side, running provides a consistent amount of resistant throughout the exercise. So while the…
