Critical Thinking: Strategies I Will Adopt To Improve My Academic Performance
What is critical thinking? According to the English Dictionary, critical thinking is the mental process of actively and skillfully conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, synthesizing, and evaluating information to reach an answer or conclusions (Dictionary.reference.com 1). Individuals practice the strategies of critical thinking in the workplace, in school, at home, or even while riding in the car. Humans are consistently analyzing and evaluating their lives in order to reach certain goals and successes, and constantly striving to better themselves in every part of their lives. The specific critical thinking strategies that will greatly benefit my academic performance are the “Wasted” time strategy, and “A Problem A Day” strategy by using my time wisely without procrastination, and choosing one topic or assignment to perform daily.
The first critical thinking strategy I will incorporate in my academic performance is the “Wasted” time strategy. Because I have a busy and strenuous work schedule, I enjoy my free time on the weekends and tend to procrastinate and postpone my individual assignments. I like to be outdoors fishing, biking, and running. I also appreciate a good movie or tv show on a Friday or Saturday evening. Instead of wasting my time watching a tv show or riding my bike, I will take better responsibility and pride in my school work, finish my assignments early, and be certain that each task is completed and satisfactory.
The second critical thinking strategy I will integrate in my academic performance is the “A Problem A Day” strategy. As a soldier in the Mississippi National Guard, I ensure that our Service Members receive the proper paperwork in their files in order for them to advance throughout their career. The job can be vigorous, requiring me to perform at a fast pace, and demanding that I successfully complete many tasks at once. Rather than rushing through my school assignments, I will undertake the “A Problem A Day” critical
