critical evaluation essay
My purpose for writing this essay is to help convey the message to the reader that as successful as America is as a nation, we need to do the best we can to ensure that we make it a better place than it is by discouraging violence as a means of problem solving. I hope that by reading this essay, the audience will have a better of understanding of why we are where we stand as a nation.
I learnt that America needs to be more careful in its decision making process before it finds itself in a bind that will take a while to recover from. I also maintained the same understanding of the topic as before and my perspective did not change after completion of the essay.
The difficulties I encountered is trying to determine the types of proof and support that I was going to use as examples in my essay. At the end, I settled for the ones that made a lot of sense to me. The thing that I enjoyed most about this assignment was reading Fulbright’s personal opinions and his personal encounters. This made it easier for me to relate more to him and his essay.
I chose to write about William Fulbright’s “Arrogance of Power”. I chose this essay because while I was reading through it I encountered parts of the essay that I personally agreed with because of prior experience.
No, there is nothing else I would like for you to know.

America, the Great Nation. William Fulbright articulates well how America as a nation will move forward in the future. Fulbright uses his essay to elaborate how America can successfully solve the problems we currently have at hand. His essay was successful because he addressed all the main issues that needed to be addressed.
Fulbright used various types of support in different ways in his essay. He uses ethos as a type of support when he states, “I do not think for a moment that America, with her deeply rooted democratic traditions, is likely to embark upon a campaign to dominate the world in the manner

Over the course of youth’s childhood, they will eventually make a remarkable change from an adolescent into an adult, resembling a caterpillar undergoing metamorphosis and emerging into a beautiful butterfly. For years there has been a debate between teenagers and adults dealing with the topic of when teens rightfully become mature and grown up. Henry G. Felsen addresses this subject through telling his own sixteen year old son his opinions and thoughts on this debate in ‘When Does a Boy Become a Man?’. The difference between a boy and a man is not in which one looks like, it is the actions and choices that a man makes which differentiates him from the boy he once was. Henry Felsen has done a commendable job in supporting this theory. He explains what the future holds for these teens that rush into adulthood with the wrong idea of what it is all about.…

Women are known to be great fans of shoes. At last count, Philippine Politician Imelda Marcos had over 2,500 pairs of shoes. The atomic bombs that were dropped on Japan in 1945 were not seen as a logical reaction to the war by everyone. Leo Szilard was a Hungarian physicist that was the first to conceive of the mechanics of the atomic bomb, and how it worked. He was fighting the use of these bombs on Japan, and trying to urge the President to reconsider the idea. Although he lost the argument over whether to use the bombs, his argument was valid based on the devastation that was caused by the atomic bombs in Japan. Given the results of the devastation in Japan, his side of the argument is unmistakably seen.…

James Fallow’s article “How American Can Rise Again” for The Atlantic Magazine is a thought provoking piece addressing the issues and fears facing a nation that may potentially be on the brink of losing its title as leader and innovator of the free world (2010). The article takes a fair-minded approach to identifying many of the greatest fears Americans have concerning a fall-from-grace of the country, its economy, education, military and political system. Fallow supports his arguments well using a mix of historical and political references as well…

Have you ever filled out a survey rating something from one to five? Often these surveys are used to find out how well something is liked or disliked. When it comes to rating something the person must think about his/her feelings about something. This is true for an evaluation essay. The writer must think about the topic and take a point of view about it. Sometimes the writer must research the topic before making any type of argument. The argument is usually stated in the thesis statement.…
