The individual was okay with my instructions and did as I asked. Without warning, when her boyfriend opened the door to leave she ran out the door in the cold behind him with no shoes on her feet. I called to her for her to come back but she continued to run after him and, because my coworker cannot move as quickly as the individual my coworker was unable to follow her. The individual ran in the direction of number nine bus stop because that’s where her boyfriend had already gone. When I reached the bus stop the individual was fighting an arguing with her boyfriend to come back to her house. I called to the residence and another staff came to assist me. I was taught to use verbal calming, to a simple touch (physical prompts) and different gestures when individuals are at interment risk of harming his/her self or others. I learned that we have to immediately separate others to a different part of the house so that the individual that’s having a behavior can have space. I know that in any occurrence the physical intervention must lead to be the last resort. I learn to use my professional judgment at all time when observing and performing my duties as a Direct Support Professional. I have trained and obtained a position in this population for many years. Being a mother I have learned to tone down, be more comforting and compassion, when they are going through something or having a moment. Working in the Developmental Disable population is challenging. I need a lot of patience but in another sense it is rewarding. I became proud of myself for a job well done when knowing I am making a difference in the lives of people who only want to be loved. I take my job serious at all …show more content…
Now this training is very intensive because it last for five days. Reading plays a major part of this training because it’s so much I need to know and I have to communicate with these procedures of administering medication. I learned why it is important to pay attention when you are administering medication because there is no room for mistakes. This is someone life I have in my hands when giving the medication to them, so it is very important that I take the necessary precaution and do it the proper way. I learned that it is important to use the five rights to administering medication safely, which are the right person, the right medication, the right dose, the right route, and the right time. Medication Administration Rights is a vital thing that is important for me to remember and I know these rights are use to reduce error or harm to the individuals. Another important step I learned when administering medication is, I have to do three checks before I give the individual any medication; this is a way to ensure that the individual is safe and free from harm. I learned to interpret directions for use of medication and documentation of prescription refills on the prescription. I learned the path, to receive and parts to prescriptions as well as the Dispensing Process. I also learned all about Over the Counter (OTC) drugs and other Pharmacy settings.
