Criminal Psychologist Career Paper
For my research paper the career i chose to research is a Criminal Psychologist and what they do is address the mental state of an individual who has committed a criminal offense and involves studying and observing the criminal mind for intentions, thoughts and aberrant behavior. I chose this career because i’m into why people committee this horrible crimes in the world. In this case of being a Criminal Psychologist there is going to be standing up asking questions to the person who is up in trail or the victim at times to help out the lawyers and attorneys. And you will be driving at times to long hours just to be part of the case they had called you in for. No, not in this career you don’t have to be physically fit because Criminal attorneys, judges, criminal psychologists, profilers and university professors of criminal justice are just a few of the types of people in the career field who would not need to be physically fit to perform their jobs. For any type of work that primarily revolves around research and analysis, physical fitness will be irrelevant except as a general marker of good health. Therefore, while people with physical limitations may not be qualified for every type of criminal justice job, there are a number of career paths still open to …show more content…
Yes, you will have to attend a University, first you get a bachelor's degree in psychology so that is four years. But once you get your bachelor's degree a student can gain entry to a graduate school psychology program with the major they have chosen. The right grad school for an advanced degree is not a quick decision to make. Many universities and colleges offer specialized psychology programs criminal psychology being one. You can also opt for a Ph.D. or Psy.D. degree in clinical or counseling psychology with focus on forensic or criminal psychology but it usually depends how long you want to be in school and get a higher education. In order for criminal psychologist to have training they must have at least one year of experience. This experience may be conducted through government agencies at the city, state, or federal level private consulting firms; hospital, prisons, courts or police departments. Experience is usually gained under the supervision of a licensed criminal psychologist and another way to experience can be gained through clinical practicums, internships, or residencies. Universities typically assist students in finding institutions to gain the necessary work experience. In this career you will have to spend time about 9 years because each year of your degree will count besides they want you to take up 2 or 3 years of graduate school but then a doctoral degree is recommended.
