CRIME DATA COMPARISON Crime Data Comparison Paper By Juanidel Cubero In this paper I will compare the robbery rate between two metropolitan cities which are Dallas Texas and San Diego California using the preliminary annual Uniform Crime Report (UCR) generated by the Federal Bureau of investigation (FBI) from January to December 2008. The Uniform Crime Reporting Program (UCR) defines robbery as the taking or attempting to take anything of value from the care, custody, or control of a person or persons by force or threat of force or violence and/or by putting the victim in fear. In 2008 the city of Dallas, TX had a population of 1,276,214 citizens with a total of 11,420 violent crimes reported. Within the violent crime index 6,466 were robbery cases. In the other hand San Diego, CA had a population of 1,271,655 citizens with 11,420 violent crimes reported. This city had 2,019 robbery cases. In spite the short difference of the population between these two cities, the city of San Diego had 4,447 less robbery cases. Both cities in comparison with the 2007 robbery rates it shows a decrease of 756 in Dallas and 76 in San Diego. The city of Dallas has been successful fighting crime this past year with a Dallas Police Department fighting program called 10/70/20. The meaning of the program consist in 10% of the people in a neighborhood don't tolerate crime, 70% aren't involved in any crime and 20% are actually committing crimes. This idea is that people start to take responsibility for crime in their neighborhoods. The goal of the program is to create citizens who don't tolerate crime. Part of implementing the program is to have someone from the city knock on every door in a targeted area - to get feedback. City leaders say that one step is the beginning of creating a non-tolerant neighborhood.
