Creighton University Personal Statement
When considering my attributes as a medical school applicant, I am convinced that I would be a great fit for the Creighton University School of Medicine community. As mentioned in my previous response, I am from a Christian background and intend to continually pursue my relationship with God throughout my years in medical school. Seeing as though Creighton is founded in a religious tradition, my belief in God makes me an excellent example for the reinforcement of the Catholic tradition. My heart has been set on the pursual of good and helping others since a very young age which has led me to a career in medicine, a character trait that fits in well with Creighton University’s endeavor to improve the human condition. As well as my religious background and heart to serve others, I place a lot of emphasis on self-discipline and strive for excellence in all aspects of my life. …show more content…
Finally, Creighton places emphasis on leadership, a role I am very familiar with although not in the medical context. As a high school student I spent nearly all of my free time in leadership roles around campus, and carried this spirit with me through my undergraduate career. At Point Loma Nazarene University I hold the position of a student security officer which is seen as a role model for the study body as a whole in the upholding of the school covenant. Additionally, within my role as a student officer, I hold the position of student supervisor which adds an additional leadership responsibility inside the department in which I work. It is because of all of these traits I envelop that I would act as a great extension to the Creighton University atmosphere as a reinforcement of the mission

Ever since I transferred to the University of Miami as an undergrad, I have had the gratification and honor to meet and work with various remarkable people, from physicians to scientists and staff. Doing research and shadowing at Miami Miller School of Medicine gave me the prospect to admire how marvelous the school and its community are. Furthermore, I have had the satisfaction to meet several professors who teach at the medical school and the prospect of learning from them is enticing. “Teely, because I’m so interested in seeing you apply with your Eagle Vision Application…” Central University. “An exclusive invitation from UNCP..” UNC Pembroke. “Mai-Teelee, you’ll want to read this.” Western Carolina. All these colleges and universities showed interest in me by reaching out through emails and letters in the mail but, it wasn’t them whom I was interested in. It was you, UNC Chapel Hill. The first time I heard about you was back in my sophomore year, in AP Environmental Science by a group of classmates who had visited the campus. At that time, I didn’t care that much for colleges. I was still worried about joining clubs and trying to make more friends and just, have fun. Like any other teenager. However, I became intrigued. Just what was it that made this school so well known and liked? Once I decided that I would aim for the medical field, my friends suggested, of course, Chapel Hill. You. They said “It’s a great medical school and you’ll get in easily because you’re Asian.” And being naive, I believed them. I didn’t quite realize just how high your expectations were. But it wouldn’t be too difficult I assumed…

I’ve learned how to build a strong résumé and cover letter, and how do professional interviews well. We also get the chance to observe and participate in a medical environment. I’ll be shadowing with Dr. Steve Carr at Northern Star Therapy and learn the basics of physical therapy. I’ve done also done volunteer work in a Geriatric setting, at the St. Benedict nursing home in St. Cloud. My plans following high school are to attend the University of Minnesota in the College of Biological Sciences. There are many instances in the recent past that will affect me greatly in my educational pursuits at Colorado Christian University. I am currently employed as a full time nurse and have been for the better part of the last five years. Another key component that affects the care I provide is my knowledge; I am always looking for ways to expand that knowledge. In the past, I haven’t put a lot of effort into my schooling.
