Texas Roadhouse has a very specific style they use for all their restaurants. The goal is to make people feel like they have stepped right into Texas, minus the desert and scorching hot sun. Lining the walls are horseshoes and cacti throughout the restaurant. To make everything a little more fun and lighthearted, the roadhouse has an armadillo named Andy as their mascot. Every forty-five minutes the servers break out in a choreographed line dance through the isles of restaurant. For birthdays, they bring out a saddle and give whoever’s birthday it is a big Texas yeehaw; no matter if they are four or ninety-four. Even the menu incorporates Texan features…

We reached The Dalles today. This is our last stop to Oregon city and this is going to be the most dangerous part of the whole trip. We have to take the Barlow Road around Mt. Hood. The road is very messy. There are big rocks guarding the road. Sticks and broken wagon pieces are getting stuck in the wagons. On top of that, everyone is getting sick and have no energy to move the wagon and walk up the steep hill and walking through the narrow paths are hard because we can't walk on the side to hold the wagon up. The oxen are getting too tired to walk anywhere and the other families with mules keep stopping and that makes us run behind on schedule. Many people are dying because they have worked too much and haven't gotten enough sleep. When we…

In the article The Myth of the Cowboy, Eric Hobsbawm argues that the tradition of the American cowboy has become an invented myth. All the Pretty Horses, by Cormac McCarthy explores the journey of John Grady Cole and Lacey Rawlins, who leave Texas and travel to Mexico where they acquire the cowboy lifestyle. The text could fit into the same category Hobsbawm describes but it also serves as a more realistic and honest description of the cowboy experience.…

In the beginning, before man was created, animals of the highest status ruled over the many regions of Earth. For the water region it was Killer Whales, for the sky region it was Eagles, and for the land region it was the Wolves. Before man, wolves didn’t stay in separate packs; they were one. Out of this, there was a kind and brave leader who went by the name of Luna. She ruled justly over her people, but being a just and powerful leader has its own costs.…

Lamb to the Slaughter By: Roald Dahl THE ROOM WAS WARM and clean, the curtains drawn, the two table lamps alight hers and the one by the empty chair opposite. On the sideboard behind her, two tall glasses, soda water, whisky. Fresh ice cubes in the Thermos bucket. Mary Maloney was waiting for her husband to come home from work. Now and again she would glance up at the clock, but without anxiety, merely to please herself with the thought that each minute gone by made it nearer the time when he would come. There was a slow smiling air about her, and about everything she did. The drop of the head as she bent over her sewing was curiously tranquil. Her skin for this was her sixth month with child had acquired a wonderful translucent quality, the mouth was soft, and the eyes, with their new placid look, seemed…

I groan, and try to retreat back into whatever nonsensical dream I was inhabiting. But it’s too late. And I can no longer cling to the last shreds of sleep as my rest is ripped from me harshly by my mum, shouting upstairs. Like a falcon screeching a threatening cry before it strikes its helpless prey, inevitably bringing death. Perhaps more like a song bird giving a warning call before danger arrives. Maybe just like a mother getting real tired of yelling at her “lazy” offspring. I sigh, realising I still haven’t answered and if I don’t soon I’d be suffering a fate worse than the falcon’s prey. I mumble something completely unintelligible and hear my mum stride away from the bottom of the stairs, relieved, either…

Once there was a girl. A girl that didn’t think she ever mattered. Sure, she had good parents and decent grades, but she never thought herself to be worth anymore than a plastic wrap on the ground. The girl isolated herself whenever she could, only speaking when it was required by her teachers. Even so, half the grade thought she was mute. She learned a fair amount of sign language to encourage the rumor, just so that more people would leave her alone.…

Once upon a time… I hate to begin with this, starting it off as if it’s a happy story, a story that will have the ending of the famous last words; happily ever after. I will start this story again, this time with a different set out. One day, there was a young naïve girl named Mia who believed in ‘happily ever after’ and thought she had found her prince charming. Everything was perfect, beautiful romantic dates under the starry night and long walks by the seaside until one day she found out that their definition of the ‘perfect teenage romance’ was to the extremes.…

In today’s modern society, media is everywhere. Even at an early stage in life, people are heavily exposed to media.
