Creative Story: 'Run Lars ! Run'
‘Run Lars! Run!’
Lars played those words over and over in his head as he slept. They are the last words his dad said to him before he was killed. He had been a Christian pastor, and because Caesar Augustus did not follow Christianity, it was wrong. And as a result Lars’s dad was murdered. And Lars has no idea where he is now. All he could see were loads of men sleeping in a large prison like room.
“Where am I?” Lars whispered to himself.
“We’re in a training camp.”
The voice was so quiet that Lars thought he had imagined it, but then he realized that there was a boy a couple feet away staring at him.
“What did you say?” Lars asked, hoping it had been him.
“I said we’re in a training camp,” replied the boy.
“A training camp for what?” Lars

Eat, train, eat, train, eat, sleep. And then everything changed, again. Cato grabbed Vel and Lars by their arms as they were going to eat and took them away from the rest of the men.
“You two have been training very hard and are amazing soldiers,” Cato complimented them.“I have decided that you are ready for the Coliseum. You will battle together as a duo.”
Lars’s head was spinning like the wheel of a chariot. He was greatly honored that he was chosen to fight in the upcoming games although he was younger than most of the men at the camp. Lars was also filled with fear that he might die a painful death, or that he might lose his only friend, Vel. But there was nothing he could do to stop it.
The next couple hours passed in a blur. Vel and Lars shared a chariot that took them into Rome. They are surrounded by several guards, of course, to stop the pair from escaping. After several hours they arrived in Rome. They were then taken to the Coliseum, and are placed in barracks under the arena. Vel and Lars had different rooms, but they rarely stayed in

What his father had said in the dream gave him courage. He would win, for his dad. Adrenaline pumping through him, Lars followed Cato to the gate where he and Vel would pick the armor and weapons. Vel chose two swords, no longer than two feet each. Lars decided to stick with a standard sword. He found a beautiful double bladed one, reaching up to four and a half feet. They both were equipped with armor and Lars had a shield. Before the pair left, Cato gave them some advice.“The pair you are fighting today have won many battles. They fight like dogs, no morals at all.Watch out for the big one. His name is Titus Leddicus, and he is vicious. Never turn your back to them and stick together.” And with that, he left to spectate.
Lars and Vel walked up to the gate and waited. Lars’s heart was pounding so hard he was sure that Vel could hear it. Lars tried to calm himself. He loathed the events more than anything else. He felt hate towards the rulers of Rome who allowed the horrible games to happen. It was so unjust and wrong that it made Lars sick. If he won, he would find a way to end the dystopian ways of Rome. He would find justice for his father and all those who died in these events.
“Ready?” Vel asked

In front of Cato lies a blade, presumably his own. Beside the man assisting Cato there appears to be a hand servant carrying bowls and towels. It is possible he has brought these to help care for Cato, but judging by his appalled body language that doesn’t seem likely. It seems reasonable that this man was coming to tend to Cato when he found him in this state and called out to the others. The urgency of the situation is further heightened by the men running through the doorway in the far background.…

Lars detachment from his family and friends all those years led to him having schizoid personality disorder and reactive attachment disorder. Reactive attachment disorder is when an infant has a lack of attachment to a caregiver at a young age, for Lars it was his parents. Because of this he would spend a lot of time alone and he never really wanted to talk to anyone or socialize which is his Schizoid Personality Disorder. Lars bought a doll named Bianca to fill in that nurturing role he was always missing with his parents being gone. When he got Bianca he would give her his mother's old blanket, put her in his mother's old room, and took her to the lake he and his brother use to play at when they were kids. He treated her as if she were real and he took her everywhere with him. They did not have a relationship as girlfriend and boyfriend because Lars hated being touched he said it felt like a burn. He could see the future scars crawling across his body. Entering the large building the group turned to a row of cell type rooms no bigger than 32 square-foot. He and a fellow slave were given a room by the arch to the outside. The following day a rude awakening at dawn was followed by an evaluation, where they all lined up and were given armour. A battle pursued a line of weapons were handed to him, facing off with the kind man who gave him the answer to his question previously. Aelius had a trident while his opponent had a net. They fought for hours neither coming out on top as the victor. When the next group was up the two collapsed into a pile. Covered in cuts they nursed their wounds with sour expressions. The next ferocious battle began and they retired to their cramped rooms. The battles continued and Aelius became stronger and was able to run faster. When reading about the Roman gladiator games as well as the chariot races and theater events, it can be quite difficult to truly envision what it was like for the participants and the spectators of such events. The participants in such activities were overall viewed as low-class citizens. Gladiators, charioteers and actors in the theater all “had little more status than slaves.” The participants of the games were meant to entertain the spectators, and nothing else. Besides the fact that the participants were seen as low class, they also faced very brutal conditions in the games. The gladiators and charioteers were susceptible to violent, gory deaths. For gladiators, often times their throats were cut and the knives eventually made their way to the gladiator’s hearts. Another possible outcome for gladiators, was being ripped to pieces by various animals. Whether their death came by combat with another gladiator or by animal, it was nothing short of gruesome. This gruesomeness though, was enjoyed by many. Chariot…

Though Lars lives in deep isolation through the beginning of the film, he fails to realize that his behaviour is out of the ordinary. Throughout the exposition of the film, Lars’s character is developed to show how he behaves around others and how he refuses to interact or socialize with those in his town. The opening sequence of the film depicts Lars in his most solitary and lonely state. He is shown looking outside of the window in his home in the garage, with the bars symbolizing how he is imprisoned in his own isolation. Lars is holding the blanket his mother had knit for him in front of his mouth, and this displays how the blanket is his main source of security. While the opening sequence reveals Lars in a deeply isolated environment, Lars fails to realize that he is doing this to himself. He perceives himself as being completely normal and that he is perfectly fine, despite living in solitude.…

Lars has a unique relationship with the people he interacts on a daily basis. In the film, he is the “closest” to his brother, Gus, and sister-in-law, Karin because he frequently encounters them due to the fact he lives in their garage. As the film begins, Lars and Gus’ relationship is distant from one another. Usually, relationships between siblings are fairly close, however, the relationship between the two is evidently awkward and it is present that they have difficulties in communicating. For instance, when Lars eats dinner with Gus and Karin, Lars is quiet and does not put much effort in conversing with his sibling. However, the relationship…
