Correlation between Productions of Built Environment, Human Activities, and Change of Urban Development
Select one of the major actors involved in the production of the built environment (i.e., speculators, real-estate agents, financial institutions, government, etc.) and, with reference to Hong Kong, to illustrate their role in urban change.
Introduction
The correlation between productions of built environment, human activities and the change of urban development has long been a hot topic in Hong Kong. It requires a complex decision making process, which includes political, economic and social concerns, in the urban planning. In this essay, I am going to study the roles of the major actors involved in the production of built environment and how their decisions result in Hong Kong’s urban changes.
Built environment provides the setting of human’s activity, includes our working, living and playing environment. It has been defined as “the human-made space, in which people live, work and recreate on a day-to-day basis.” (Roof,K and Oleru N; 2008) Therefore, it is important for us to know how different actors contribute to the decisions of urban development, so as to understand how our life are being affected by them.
Definition of specific terms
Built environment is defined as the human-made or human-altered space in which individuals live out their daily lives. (A. Renalds, T. H. Smith, and P. J. Hale) It includes a large range in scale from our accommodations, large buildings and recreational spaces to the city basic infrastructure, such as water and electricity supplies.
Data and method
In this paper, all information will be based on the research done on the Internet and reference books. Most of the information will be summarized and written in my own wordings. The information and data collected will be presented in form of paragraph, tables, point-from and charts for better presentation and clearer illustration.
