The novel opens on Grand Isle, a summer retreat for the wealthy French Creoles of New Orleans. Léonce Pontellier, a wealthy New Orleans businessman of forty, reads his newspaper outside the Isle’s main guesthouse. Two birds, the pets of the guesthouse’s proprietor, Madame Lebrun, are making a great deal of noise. The parrot repeats phrases in English and French while the mockingbird sings persistently. Hoping to escape the birds’ disruptive chatter, Léonce retreats into the cottage he has rented. Glancing back at the main building, Léonce notes that the noise emanating from it has increased: the Farival twins play the piano, Madame Lebrun gives orders to two servants, and a lady in black walks back and forth with her rosary…

The whole play being set in one room, Frank’s office, is not very common in theatres or plays. Having this shocks the audience and instantly becomes more interesting because of its difference. On a symbolic level, the furniture is very interesting. The squeaky door represents a Frank’s barrier, and isolation from the outside world. The window, although transparent, represents a weaker barrier he has with his students. However, Rita finds her way in; showing her determination from Frank’s lost spirit. This struggle of becoming a more educated person becomes interesting for the audience as they can compare it their own…

A constant internal conflict is the worry of how they will get their next meal and how cold they will be that night. They also lacked a sense of security in their own house. I would recommend this book to people that don't like to read non fiction, because I, myself have a very hard time reading non fiction without getting bored. However, this book grabbed my attention by giving me very interesting bits of Jeannette's problems that she encountered. This book is not recommended for young children because there is racist language, sensitive content and sexual assault in different situations. Recommendation: Point of view First Person as Jeannette Protagonist Jeannette Walls…

Imagine a world with homes that have a mind of their own. Psyche Estates that make living seem remarkably easy and simple, possibly too simple(lead in). In “The Veldt” by Ray Bradbury, there is such thing as a house that does everything for their owner; cleans, cooks, dresses, and even has a nursery for children. But the nursery in these houses is no ordinary playroom, this room is able to sense the brainwaves of a child and create images out of the crystal walls it was built with(summary). The author's writing style affects one nursery drastically, changing the real use of the crystallized room and the lives of the owners. With imagery, syntax, and diction, Bradbury creates this dystopian society and gives the reader a foreshadow of the power in technology (thesis).…

Some time has passed, and the roommates are all together. There are some noises, scratching or squeaking of some sort. The protagonist asks the others if they hear the noises, to which they say yes, but act as if it is normal and a regular occurrence. The protagonist brushes it off, until they hear their name being whispered. They ask again if anyone hears this, to which everyone says no, and acts as if she is greatly mistaken. This is the first step in the Hero’s Journey, The Ordinary World. The Call To Adventure begins next, as the character tries to investigate by knocking on the door of the apartment above, and asking other neighbours that happen to walk by. A mysterious and creepy character is present and warns the protagonist to not hang around that apartment door or question it too much. They warn the protagonist to be careful. The protagonist thinks little of this as their roommate tells them that the character they met was just someone who liked to mess with the students attending school. They think that the protagonist is just being paranoid, and maybe just nervous about their first year of university. The protagonist tries to go back to regular life, but starts…

She said that the cabin was old and patched up, but the neighboring bay completely covered it all up to make it look as cozy as home. The author also added in a couple of clues here and there, like when Bess was captured and then released right away. That showed me that there was more than one person responsible for whatever was going on up there. Another clue that the author gave away was when she said that the girl walking on the water walked slowly out into the water getting smaller for every step she took, which kind of gave away the fact that the girl was on stilts. Another clue in that same situation was when Nancy heard a crack and the girl fell into the water. After that, I really didn’t feel like reading ahead because I already knew what was happening. I do like clues in a book to give you a hint, but to that point where it completely gives it away, not one of my favorite book…

After I realized who I was talking to I saw that she was short, shorter than I expected. She had dark brown hair that flipped in by her shoulders and freckles that covered her smooth flawless skin. She took me by the hand and pulled me inside a building, it was her house. It blended in very well with the houses around it, it had dark purple curtains that were eaten by moths and smelled like must. It had a very rustic feel to it, like the house had lived a life of its own.…
