Coping with college
Coping With College Going to college is important for me, because I believe that it is the next step forward to success. A better education means a better job, and the field that I am going in to requires for me to go to college and have a degree. Why college is important to me are not only because of money, in order to succeed and have little or no struggle financially, you must have a education that will end up being a career of my choice, and not just something I want to settle for, but it has to do with and my life. We all have more than one dream job and we really have to settle for just one, I have always dreamed about teaching history in high school. It's my ultimate dream and goal in life to achieve that dream of becoming a teacher. Without going to college, getting a degree, I would not be able to go into that field. My greatest challenges going to college are time management and the transition from what I was used to in high school. I'm not used to doing 6-9 hours of homework just for one class, in high school the most I did for each classes was about 15-25 minutes, and if I did not feel like doing it at that time, I'd have study halls, which college doesn't have to do it. Doing that much work for just one class means that I don't have enough time to have a social life or spend time with family, or do physical activities, which for me takes 1-2 hours. Having no life and just do school work will drive someone insane. Not having physical activities could deteriorate my health conditions, and really drive me into depression. The transition from high school to college is hard to say the least. I'm not used to having to remind myself of when works are due, I have to be responsible for myself and I am not very responsible. The only way to overcome these challenges would be realizing that I can't handle a 15 credit semester, but I will still do the work that the professors said to do. I want my grades to reflect who I am and what I am capable of. I will

College is fundamental to me for several reasons. For example, in the article College Is Worth The Cost, by Brooks C. Holtom states that “college graduates earn $2.1 million in a lifetime income compared with $1.2 million for high school graduates.” I will earn about a million more dollars than high school graduates if I am a college graduate. This is important because then I will have enough money to provide for my own kids and wife later on then I would also have enough money to give to my parents and siblings if they need it. Also, the article states, “continuing education after high school is much more important for our generation compared to our parents generation.” Additionally most jobs require more than a high school diploma. Did your parents attend college? If your parents did not have a chance to go to college then you should go to college to make them proud of you. College doesn’t just bring you school it also brings you adventure, parties, new friends, and more fun stuff. Lastly, in the article Getting…

College is really incomparable to high school. You will usually be told what to do and corrected if your behavior is out of line in high school and in college you’re expected to take responsibility for what you do and don't do, as well as for the consequences of your decisions. In high school you will usually be told in class what you need to learn from assigned readings while in college, it’s up to you to read and understand the assigned material; lectures and assignments proceed from the assumption that you've already done so. High school is a teaching environment in which you acquire facts and skills while college is a learning environment in which you take responsibility for thinking through and applying what you have learned. In high school, mastery is usually seen as the ability to reproduce what you were taught in the form in which it was presented to you, or to solve the kinds of problems you were shown how to solve while in college, mastery is often seen as the ability to apply what you've learned to new situations or to solve new kinds of problems. And lastly, in high school, "effort counts." Courses are usually structured to reward a "good-faith effort." In college, "results count." Though "good-faith effort" is important in regard to the professor's willingness to help you achieve good results, it will not substitute for results in the grading process. (http://www.taftcollege.edu/newtc/StudentServices/ACE/differences.htm). Students who are not aware of its difference might as well bump into a great wall. We categorized those difficulties that freshmen encounter into three- academically, socially and emotionally.…
