Contemporary Issues In Western Religions Struggles within Christianity Due to all the changes going on in today’s society, conflict within the Christian church has changed as oppose to the conflicts that were faced about 25 years ago. I feel as though we’re coming to an age where many liberal christians want to worship, but follow their own beliefs as well, and that’s something that a lot of conservative Christians disagree on. Issues such as same-sex marriage, abortion, preserving the Founder’s cherish separation of church and state, amongst other issues as well. It’s these liberal beliefs that threaten the moral fiber and ideal belief structure of Christianity and the derivatives from the Holy Bible. The Bible can play toward many different views, like from a conservative’s aspect one could argue that though it never specifically says in the Bible anything against homosexuality, it is implied that it maybe one of the reasons God brought his wrath upon Sodom and Gomorrah, but the major reason for it’s destruction was because they had plentiful blessings and did not care to help those who were less fortunate than then selves. However, there are several stories in the Bible that speak on homosexual involvement being a sin, because anything unnatural such as these acts are considered “turning your back on the rule of God”, which would be equivalent to worshipping a false idol.
The same goes for abortion as well. Though there isn’t a scripture specifically forbidding this per se, but there are a lot of scriptures in the Holy Bible that talk about the sanctity of birth, death, life, pregnancy, and God’s foreknowledge of individuals. Not just before birth, but before the person’s actual conception or before they are formed inside of the womb. After reading certain scriptures about the topics mention above, it is ultimately left up to you to decide whether or not it it moral or immoral to abort life. You

“ The Love and acceptance of god must be brought to all people. The prejudice and hatred of the christian right must be rejected and fought. Those who act out of ignorance must be educated.” (Simpson, Bruce J.) All churches need to accept and love their homosexual members and stop rejecting them in the house of the lord. It’s god’s home, he wouldn’t want any tension between the sexes in the house.…

The Wars of Religion in the 17th and 18th centuries were some of the bloodiest conflicts of all of European history before the World Wars. They spanned the entire continent, involved nearly every member of society, and resulted in the deaths of millions. Reactions to these wars varied– some were in favour, some were opposed. However, despite the fact that people’s reactions deviated wildly, the evidence shows that many rulers had a similar attitude towards the Wars of Religion, and manipulated them for the benefit of themselves or their country.…

Abortion is the deliberate ending of a life after fertilisation. For many years the morality of abortion has been disputed with many religions condemning women from having an abortion. Abortion also goes against many ethical theories, such as Rule utilitarianism and Bentham’s Utilitarianism.…

Many churches preached against gay rights, saying things like, “Homosexuals are sinners, god didn’t want this, and my favorite, god made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve.” “Leviticus 20:13 - If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood [shall be] upon them.” (Bible). When people read things like this in the bible it’s basically telling them it’s okay to discriminate against others, such as homosexuals. It is so wrong that the bible consists of sch horrible, degrading passages, saying if a man is in sexual relations with another man they should be put to death. The bible also states, “Leviticus 18:22 - Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it [is] abomination.” Don’t get me wrong I see no problem believing in god, but I don’t believe people should take the bible as serious as they do. The bible doesn’t only talk about discrimination against homosexuality, it also talks about how women must listen to their husbands, and different foods you shouldn’t eat because if you don’t obey the bible you are going to hell. Leviticus 19:27 reads, “You shall not round off the side-growth of your heads nor harm the edges of your beard.” That’s basically saying you can’t cut your hair or you’re going to hell, which is complete stupidity. The bible also states, “You are to keep my statutes. You shall not breed together two kinds of your cattle; you shall not sow your field with two kinds of seed, nor wear a garment upon you of two kinds of material mixed together.” The bible just has ridiculous “laws” that you must abide by like not mixing two fabrics, therefore saying you can’t wear polyester. I think it’s foolish that many people know the bible has irrational passages written in it, but insist on saying, “According to the bible homosexuality is…

First of all, abortion has a much closed relationship with religious beliefs. There are many different religions in the world such as Christianity, Judaism, and Buddhism. The most common religious belief in the United States is Christianity. According to the Bible, there is a quote tell us that abortion is an unrespectable action to the God. “You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonder-fully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous - and how well I know it.” (Psalm…

However, even one person who makes the right choice and puts God first could affect their entire community. Rearrange your perspectives, and dedicate your life to God, and people will notice. As John Wesley stated, “I set myself on fire and people come to watch me burn.” Do not let the frivolities of life distract you, and keep you from loving the Lord “with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind,” and loving “your neighbor as yourself,” as we are commanded in Luke 10:27. I challenge you to regard this one verse as the supreme reason for your existence, and realize that nothing else you could ever do matters more. Believe it or not, that phone call can wait, that quiz won’t alone determine the success of your future career, and that pile of to-do’s will be there tomorrow. This week, put everything else on the back-burner for a change, and pray for increased passion and faith in your own life. In doing so, you will be allowing America to come one person closer to regaining her lost reputation as a nation where pure religion retains a great influence over the souls of…

The Bible does not discern between an infant and a fetus, therefore. There are many scripture quotations from the Bible that are relevant to the topic of abortion, for example, Jeremiah 1:5. God is speaking to the young boy Jeremiah in this scripture. He speaks of knowing the boy before he was formed in the womb (www.saintaquinas.com/mortal_sin.html). It is clear we have a soul before conception has taken place in this scripture. God clearly values us as human beings at the time of conception. The implication is that we should also value fetuses as human beings with souls. The sixth commandment (Exodus 20:13) makes killing a sin. Abortion is murder since we are valued as human beings while we are still in the womb. Abortion is therefore not only a sin but a mortal sin. St. John differentiates between a venial sin and a mortal sin in John 5:16-17. All sin is an offense to God, however, some sins are graver than others. It is, for instance, a graver sin to murder someone than to lie to someone. A venial sin still offends God and should be avoided because if we continue to sin in this way it can lead to mortal sin. In this passage John tells us if we commit a venial sin to pray, essentially asking for forgiveness. Jesus warns us that we will not be allowed into the kingdom of heaven if we commit a mortal sin, we will burn. A mortal sin must meet three criteria:…

Many well meaning people build their case against homosexuality almost entirely on the Bible. They, just as I, value the ancient text, and seek its guidance in their lives. Unfortunately, many of them have never really studied what the Bible does and doesn’t say about homosexuality. I was unaware until about 2 years ago that a lot of what I'd been taught about the Bible by people who love God and want to teach others the words, was derived from an improper understanding of context, history, and also literalism, which was seen as heresy even going back to Origen and Polycarp, early church fathers who were students of Apostle John. When I searched further, I came to see the Bible as more. I saw its many cultures, religions and spiritualities, but more importantly, I saw people who were trying with their limited understanding of the universe, nature, biology, and overall knowledge, to make sense of a world, and a God, they didn't understand.…

Just to offer a brief outline for this presentation: I’ll start by considering some of the broader issues and divisions that are behind this debate; and then I’ll move to a closer examination of the main biblical texts that are involved in it; and then I’ll offer some concluding remarks. The issue of homosexuality, of the ordination of gay clergy and of the blessing of same-sex unions, has caused tremendous divisions in the church in recent decades, and the church remains substantially divided over the issue today. On the one hand, the most common themes voiced by those who support changing traditional church teaching on homosexuality are those of acceptance, inclusion, and love, while on the other hand, those who oppose these changes express concerns about sexual purity, holiness, and most fundamentally, the place of Scripture in our communities. Are we continuing to uphold the Bible as authoritative, and are we taking biblical teachings seriously, even if they make us uncomfortable?…

One of America’s most debated issues today is the Same-Sex Marriage. In fact, gay marriage has been legalized in nine States in America. Having to be a part of the Christian community, we truly disagree to this for it is a sin as we consider it and we do not have to think twice in contradicting this topic. However, it doesn’t hurt to talk a little about this.…
