Contemporary HR
Contemporary HR I chose to read the article, “Most Innovative Growth Companies 2014,” from a Forbes magazine article. I then chose to focus my attention on Choice Hotels, which was highlighted in the article. Herve Humler is the President and Chief Operations Office of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, which is one of the Choice Hotel chains. As one of the original founders, Mr. Humler helped create the Credo and Motto for which the company has been known for 30 years. It is a daily reminder and guiding principle for how the hotels he oversees should be operated and the way the 35,000 ladies and gentlemen of the company should be treated. Humler still utilizes The Ritz-Carlton (original) Credo as his roadmap to success, which has won company numerous awards over decades. The motto advises its employees every morning in a lineup session to treat their guests as they would like to be treated (Leaders, 2013).
Mr. Humler is responsible for leading the brand’s operations, global growth strategy and championing its distinctive service culture. Mr. Humler’s portfolio of responsibilities includes presiding over 86 Ritz-Carlton properties located across the globe. He is also President of Bulgari Hotels and Resorts. Prior to his current appointment, he served as Global Chief Operations Officer for The Ritz-Carlton and head of the brand’s international region, where he presided over the operations of hotels and resorts in South America, Asia, Africa, The Middle East, and Europe (Dyer & Gregersen, 2014). In his role at the operational helm of the iconic luxury hotel company, Herve Humler is guiding The Ritz-Carlton through a period of unprecedented growth and evolution. The Ritz-Carlton is branching out on all fronts with significant expansion across Asia, changing aesthetics of hotel design and dynamic initiatives in the realms of service delivery and quality assurance to name a few. Entrusted with continuing to grow the elevated status of one of the most

As stated previously, Hyatt’s primary goal is to “be the preferred brand.” Because of this, Hyatt continually develops various strategies to stay on par with that initial goal. One form of a strategy, which allows an organization to focus on delivering superior customer value, is known as value strategies. Through this focus, a company can incorporate a variety of the three methods. These methods are operational excellence, customer intimacy, and product leadership (Pearce & Robinson, 2013). Rosewood Hotels & Resorts, L.L.C, was established in 1979 by the Caroline Rose Hunt Trust Estate. This collection of high end luxury hotels has up to 2004 implemented an individual brand/collection brand strategy built around the “sense of place” concept. This concept tailors their hotels to capture the local architecture, history and culture, differentiating them from corporate branded hotels. Despite Rosewood’s performance of having the highest average per room daily room rate and revenue, and recognition amongst travel agents, brand recognition amongst their guests is low. President and CEO, John Scott, and vice president of sales and marketing, Robert Boulogne, are considering a new corporate brand strategy(CBS) aiming to promote their corporate brand. Rosewood serves a niche market which is a small subset of the whole luxury industry of sophisticated customers, who value the distinct exclusive ‘collection’ hotel of the overall luxury market. The goal of the new strategy is to boost brand recognition, increase multi-property stays per guest, realize growth potential and increase their customer lifetime value.…

The problem the new president and CEO are facing is whether to switch to a corporate branding strategy or stick with the current individual property branding strategy. In fact the latter has been a very successful strategy for the company for the past 15 years. Nonetheless the top managers of Rosewood believe that as the luxury hotels market is becoming more and more crowded and competitive, the individual property branding strategy is actually limiting the potential number of customer the company can target since it doesn’t seem to be effective on the mass market. Therefore a change in the company strategy is required.…

Marriott and currently operate around 3,000 lodging properties in the United States as well as 67 in other countries (Malhotra, 2010, p. 517). Marriott is a name that is known by most people and continues to grow and improve its services throughout time. The hospitality industry has a tough job at times because they are responsible for making people feel as if they never left home. Whether this is by providing something as simple as a bed and a shower or by having extremely luxurious rooms with lavish pools, gyms, and excellent service. Either way, Marriott has to provide a room and services that make people want to stay at their location when they are away from home and come back each and every time. This job is difficult, but to their advantage, they are able to use marketing research as a means to get quality information on problems or issues that are of importance.…
