The family has two daughters Consuelita and Mili, one meaning comfort and solace the other meaning miracle. Consuelita goes through many personal changes, but also has to sit back and watch the world around her change. Her parents have two totally different aspects on life which makes it even harder for her growth, this sparks problems later in the book. Quiet insecure, Consuelita learns to open up through changing relationships with her sister and best friend.
Consuelita is an isolated teenager throughout her adventures. She is young but her maturity level and intelligence surpass her age.(INSERT QUOTE). She had to grow up faster than most since her younger sister was born not too long after her. She was known as a quiet and timid girl once her sister was born, since her parents barely payed attention to her, they even forgot about her fifteenth birthday. It’s a long-term mental disorder involving a breakdown in the relation between thought, emotion, and behavior. This somewhat holds her back from showing her full potential in some things, but she pushes through it. Near the end of the book Mili ends up going missing. They believe she drowned in the ocean, they do not know if this is truly what happened, but they wanted to tell the parents something for closure. Their parents were extremely sad, but Consuelita and Patricio were most definitely the ones who took this terrible event to heart the
