Essay For G.E.D
My reason for dropping out of school and getting my G.E.D is because I don’t do well in school I don’t get along with the teachers or the kids although I do make some friends there are other kids who I just don’t get along with I don’t like work or homework because school isn’t for me I hate it along with immature teenagers who think life is a game plus I think getting my G.E.D would be better and faster for me it will be good to because I’m under C.Y.F.D custody and I already took the Pre G.E.D test and past everything but math so instead of having 8 classes each day I will have one math class every two weeks which will take the stress and my school depression off of me and I will have more time for a job and to take a Driver’s Ed class to get my learners permit and since I’m more grown up and more mature than most kids because of the life I had it would be best for me to get my G.E.D rather than stay in a place that I don’t like and fail out of school like I was doing. Deciding to go back to school seemed like an obvious choice for my career and beyond. I had once enrolled in a class where I physically had to sit in the classroom three days a week. With the hectic schedule of my job I quickly had to drop class and focus on my military training.…

I recently found a list of goals that I had written 20 years ago. Most of the goals were realistic and I was able to achieve them. While I was checking the items off my list that I accomplished, there was one that I have debated about for many years—returning to school to earn a degree. Returning to school has always been achievable; however, as each year of my life sped by and I got older, I always came up with more and more excuses as to why I should not return to school. One day I received a course catalog in the mail showing online classes at the college. I decide that an online class would be the first step to my future. I am so grateful for the first day of that class. All the excuses and delays regarding returning to school were in vain. It is amazing the different prospective I know have about being a child verses an adult in school.…

However after entering college, everything changed. I knew everything was going to be more difficult and demanding. Beyond all the hardships of academics, I was also going to have to pay for all of education by myself, because my parents could not afford it. This adversity made it extremely difficult for me to decide if I wanted to continue my education and enter college. However, despite my finical struggle I decide to continue my education and apply for college. I applied to Rockland Community College, where I wanted to work on increasing my GPA.…

Rather than not pass math again, I chose to withdraw. I didn’t want to run the risk of barely passing and not being prepared for Math 110 which would then jeopardize my GI Bill. My Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) counselor recommended me to try Math 56 as it covered more material and I would have better an opportunity to pass it. I took Math 56 over this past summer. I did not pass the class yet, I felt more confident in my abilities to understand Algebra. Proudly, last semester I passed Math 56 and was one of the top students in the class. Without a strong foundation, Algebra has taken me along time to understand. With perseverance, my math anxiety has become manageable. Additionally, I came to learn about some challenges when using the GI Bill, for example, there is no pay when school is not in session. I went to the Palomar College Career Center to update my resume. Unfortunately, getting a part-time job on the weekends proved to be difficult. Hard work of looking for more income had paid off and I was able to find a job working with Veterans Office doing VA work study. Learning how to navigate through the college system in order to help my seventeen-year-old son go through the process is motivation to finish my education plan and…

Pregnant at seventeen and no foundation of stability, I dropped out of school to prepare to raise my child. I then began to struggle and had a hard time making ends meet, so at that time I got on track to seek help and guidance. I started the process to get enrolled in school but backed out due to finding out at nineteen I was expecting my second child. I finally went back to school and got my GED and graduated my program in summer of 2010. I walked across the stage to receive my diploma carrying my son Joziah Jah’Von (5 months) and holding my daughter Ajiona Amory’s hand (2 years). I was very proud and felt extremely accomplished. The importance returning to school will have on my life is that I will be able to provide a stable life for my children, become successful and self-fulfilled through a career in business, and rise above the negative expectations some people have of me.…
