There are various significant Golden Rules that Confucius expressed, although I only find a certain amount of them to be important in my life. On the other hand, I disagree with the rest of his reflection on human life. There is only one quote I strongly agree with, that is “everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it.”
I believe everything has beauty but everyone else is blind not to see it. Physical features are the only detail on a person that everyone seems to care about. We, humans, tend to ignore the person’s personality simply because they are not appealing to our liking. This is why I believe this quote, “everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it”, is accurate.
One quote I highly disagree with is, “It is more shameful to distrust our friends than to be deceived by them.” You are not able to distrust your friends unless they deceive you. Definition of friends, in my dictionary, is to trust them with what one is telling them. If one do not trust someone, why would one need to befriend them? Also, if they are truly one’s friends, why would they try to deceive one?
One expression from Confucius that I always use in my everyday situation is, “Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.” There are many times I’ve faced a situation and it was to the point that I did not want to continue on. But I know if I stopped, I would have failed myself and so I went on with the situation. In the end, I came out on top and feeling satisfied by it. In my conclusion, Confucius creates a great reflection about human life but like any other human, he made mistakes as

Confucius believed that the problem with government and society was caused by a lack of virtue. Confucius considered gravity, generosity of soul, sincerity, earnestness and kindness all virtuous.
According to Confucius if you are a hermit you cannot be virtuous. He argued that if you are virtuous, people will be attracted to you willing to provide you with help and information, and happily follow orders. Confucius even went as far as to say virtue is never solitary it always has neighbors (Analects; 4:25). The first example is where Confucius explains to not give praise to wrongdoers to provide people examples of how to live. He is states to give praise when praise is due to positive things versus negative. Do not influence the people with wrong doings because when they see the truth, not only will they be hurt but will turn against you. He states in the Analects, “Raise the straight and set them about the crooked, and you will win the hearts of the people. If you raise the crooked and set them above the straight, the people will deny you their support” (Confucius 670). The second example is Confucius explaining a man should give respect in order to get respect. Similar to the golden rule, do unto others and you want them to do unto you. As quoted “The Master said: “A gentlemen shows authority, but no arrogance. A vulgar man shows arrogance, but no authority” (Confucius 679). Confucius is merely saying in order to lead by example you must hold yourself to a moral standard of dignity and respect, and be humble in order for people to look up to you as a role model. Lastly, Confucius attempts to promote the benefits of hard work and labor. As quoted, “The Master said: “If a ruler could employ me, in one year I would make things work, and in three years the results would show” (Confucius 679). He is stating do not give up at anything you do, because success does not happen overnight but takes time to see the effects of your good work.…

The Analects was written by Confucius, also known as Kong Zi, who resided during the Era of Warring State, which was a sub-period of the Eastern Zhou Dynasty. This was a time of disunity and power struggle where the empire was divided into areas controlled feudal lords who desired to expand their land by conquering weaker neighboring states. In the midst of this, philosophies of humanity and order began to blossom, as people began to grow tiresome of the constant wars and chaos. Confucius emphasizes that, “If they [riches and honor] cannot be obtained in the proper way, they should not be held”(p.2). These philosophies flourished as people began wanting reforms towards a harmonious life. Confucianism contributed to the downfall of the Zhou Dynasty, bringing in new values and social behaviors to the civilization.…

Confucius was one of the most influential people on East Asian culture. Born in the sixth century, Confucius committed himself to spreading morality and inspiring people to do good (Ebrey, 42). Confucius linked moral behaviour to traditional roles and hierarchies in both social and political life. One of his main teachings was filial piety, the reverent respect for people in higher standing than you, such as parents and older people. His ideal world was one where hierarchy created harmony and conventions governed actions (Ebery, 42). The highest virtue for Confucius is called Ren, or “perfect goodness, benevolence, humanity, co-humanity, human heartedness, and nobility” (Ebery, 43).…
