Concussion and CTE Research Concussions are really common since there are about 265 million people actually playing football whether its tackle or flag football. An estimated amount of 3.8 million kids who play sports have had a concussion in the year 2014,they get worse every year.Based on my research,some of the common symptoms of getting a concussion includes;memory problems,sensitivity to light and noise,has dizziness,confusion,and etc.Some of the ways in which a concussion can be treated would be resting,or the Return to Play protocol which is done in five steps;
1. light exercise
2. running in the gym or field without a helmet
3. non contact drills
4. play practice normally
5. then play in the game again.
A Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) is a progressive degenerative disease of the brain found in athletes and others with a history of repetitive brain trauma,including a symptomatic concussions as well as asymptomatic subconcussive hits to the head.The only way to diagnose CTE would be when you have died by postmortem neuropathological analysis otherwise there is no diagnoses.You are also able to get a subconcussive hit,a hit in the head with no concussion.Researchers suggest that subconcussive hits do not cause shortterm neurological problems after one season. But there is no verdict
— yet — about whether they are causing longterm problems, such as those associated with CTE. About 4500 NFL players had filed a law suit because how many
CTE's were found in those football players.In the last 19 years,the NFL
has never admitted that there may be a link between concussions and longterm cognitive problems;however in 2005 researchers had seen a link between the two.About 5,000 former NFL players have been diagnosed with CTE, but only about 45 players were
